‘Australian Idol’…too little too late?
All eyes are on Australian Idol this year to see whether a revamped version of the show can bounce back to prominence after a lackluster year featuring Natalie Gauci and Matt Corby. Both singers are yet to release a solo album.
So how will producers rescue the show? A source has revealed that major international stars will appear on the series as mentors and guests. Stevie Wonder has been lined up as a guest in October but executives are aiming for a female superstar for the final show: Beyonce Knowles has been asked to appear at the Idol finale in Sydney on November 23.
Rumours were also mention regarding the judges of Australian Idol, Mark, Marcia, Dicko and Kyle; With Mark now out of the picture Fremantle Media wanted all judges to be axed from the show and replaced with a fresh new team. However Channel 10 did not want to do that and went against their decision and stated that if 2008 does not succeed a huge revamp will take place with all judges being replaced and Andrew G leaving the show. Andrew G is rumored not be taking part in this series however no sources have provided this as of yet.
So what do you think? Australian Idol, is it too little too late? Will it go the way of Big Brother? Leave your comments and give us your views on the future of the show.
Australian Idol begins 7:30pm Sunday, August 24, 2 hours before the Olympic Closing Ceremony. Perhaps a ratings grabber stunt for TEN, who are no doubt hoping that the viewers will tune in to Idol while waiting for the Closing Ceremony to begin.
Check out the current promo after the break, which features some of the top 100.

I’m really hoping that this season is the return of the great Idol shows of past years. I don’t think they’ll ever beat the first year with Guy, but the talent is looking quite impressive in the teaser. I have an Australian Idol blog happening where I’ll be keeping track of the competition as it unfolds…
