The superhero friendly folks over at The CW are prepping a new drama series based on Batman’s trusty (if not slightly camp) sidekick, Robin.

Executive producers of Smallville, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson and Supernatural/Chuck exec McG, are the powers behind the Batman spin off, titled The Graysons, which has been given a put pilot commitment at the green network.

The show, like Smallville, will follow the life of Dick “DJ” Grayson, before he dons the spandex super hero suit and ultimately becomes Batman’s sidekick.

The CW believe that the new series could either become a solid replacement or a great companion piece to Smallville, should the man-of-steel drama go into its ninth season next year.
