‘Samantha Who?’ will have a few conditions imposed upon it should it want to return for a third season.

In this tough economic climate, networks are having to scale back on production costs. Not exempt from this category is ABC’s comedy series ‘Samantha Who?’, which will have a few conditions imposed upon it next season.

Sources say that the network are asking for producers to slash $500,000 off the budget for each episode, in addition to switching to a multi-camera format.*

The shift to a three-camera set up would allow for short production time on the ABC comedy series.

Despite the change of format, the network have no plans to move filming of the series to a stage. They intend to keep it’s current sets and single-camera look.

It’s believed that Stephen McPherson, ABC’s entertainment chief,  has been looking to get multi-camera comedies back on the network, which once dominated the comedy genre.
ABC is also exploring the same idea for long-running comedy ‘Scrubs’.

‘Samantha Who?’ returned after a four month hiatus in March, while Christina Applegate undertook treatment for breast cancer. The comedy series has since struggled to secure the strong audience reception as it did during it’s first season.
