Alloy Entertainment’s ‘Confessions of a Backup Dancer’ is being adapted for television for The CW, along with new projects from Mark Schwahn (‘One Tree Hill’) and Rob Thomas (‘Veronica Mars’).

Confessions of a Backup Dancer
Following a rather mixed start to the season, The CW have started thinking about their future development slate, with new projects ranging from singers, dancers and cheerleaders to spies, sisters and space cadets.
Projects include, ‘Confessions of a Backup Dancer’ from ‘The L Word’ creator Ilene Chaiken, who is adapting the Alloy Entertainment novel. Chaiken will pen the pilot and serve as executive producer along side Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy.
‘Confessions’, from Warner Bros. Television, explores the glamorous and gritty behind-the-scenes world of a major pop tour from the point of view of the star’s troupe of backing dancers.
‘One Tree Hill’ creator Mark Schwahn will co-write and exec produce ‘Nashville’, with country star Brad Paisley and Neal Dodson.
‘Nashville’, from CBS Studios, is set in Music City USA and centers on a young female singer destined for stardom and a young male songwriter whose career path is uncertain.
Schwahn is also developing another project for the CW about a spy school for girls.
‘Veronica Mars’ creator and former ‘90210′ developer, Rob Thomas, will return to The CW with ‘Plymouth Rock’. Thomas will write and exec produce with Danielle Stokdyk, Jennifer Gwartz and Dan Etheridge.
The project, from Warner Bros. Television, is a soap set aboard a spaceship and revolves around young people headed to a distant planet with a mission to colonize and procreate to save the human race.
Joining ‘Gossip Girl’ in New York is ‘The March Sisters’, from CBS Studios. The project has been described as ‘Sex and the City’ meets ‘Little Women’ in Manhattan, revolving around working-class siblings trying to make it in the wealthy, glamorous world of Park Avenue.
Jill Gordon (‘90210′, ‘Cupid’) will exec produce ‘March Sisters’, along with Meryl Poster.
Finally, the CW will develop cheerleading drama ‘Cheer’, from Kevin Murphy (‘Reaper’) and exec produced by ‘Smallville’ star Tom Welling.
