Seven and Yahoo!7 to launch new Catch-up TV destination

Sydney, Monday 14 December, 2009 – Yahoo!7 and the Seven Network are poised to launch a new Yahoo!7 Catch-Up TV destination in January 2010. The new site will provide full-length episodes of Australia’s favourite television shows including 21 of the top 30 shows in Australia such as Home & Away, FlashForward, Greys Anatomy, LOST, Desperate Housewives, Heroes and the highly anticipated My Kitchen Rules.

According to Rohan Lund, CEO Yahoo!7: “Australians have already embraced Catch-Up TV with nearly two million streams of full episode TV shows each month on Yahoo!7 and we expect this to quadruple with the launch of the new Catch-Up TV destination. We’re privileged to have access to Seven’s stable of programs and the dedicated Catch-Up TV destination site will allow us to extend the range of shows we can make available while making it even easier for users to access the TV shows they love.”

The new site will launch with mid-roll advertising, an Australian first for online video.

According to James Warburton, Chief Sales & Digital Office, Seven Media Group, the new offering will mean even greater opportunities for SMG Red to deliver cross platform solutions to Australian advertisers.

“Catch-Up TV is a huge opportunity for advertisers to increase their audience reach across both TV and online and we’ve already had a lot of interest. To date the challenge has been for advertisers to access enough premium online video inventory which the new Catch-Up TV destination on Yahoo!7 will deliver. Our ability to provide advertisers with sponsorship and advertising campaigns across TV and video online is now magnified,” he said.

The site will be browser-based streaming video which requires no special software, is easy to use and does not require the user to wait for a download to complete.
