Meet the new Rafter, Ruby Louise Rafter.

In the season finale of Seven’s ‘Packed to the Rafters’, the tightly kept secret surrounding the gender of the ‘Rafters’ latest addition was finally revealed.

The momentous arrival of the new baby wasn’t the only drama for the Rafters. Summer brought even more heat to what was already set to be a trying few hours for the family.

Rachel found herself contemplating an non-proposal from a seizure induced Jake; Warnie continued to impose on Ben, Melissa and Carbo’s “comfortable” living arrangements; and Nathan and Sammy’s marrige took yet another hit.

After finally scoring a win in their favour — $14,000 in a game of roulette to be exact — it seemed things were finally coming together for the young couple, who were set on paying off their debts and finally finding their own apartment. But in true Rafters fashion, Nathan’s recklessness and lies caught up with him as his newfound gambling addiction took hold.

Add to all this Dave’s unfortunately scheduled vasectomy, it seemed timing couldn’t be worse to welcome baby Ruby into the world.

As the season came to a close, were left wondering whether Nathan and Sammy’s marriage could ever recover from this latest blow? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Packed to the Rafters’ returns for its third season on Seven in 2010.

The Rafters are back in town and they've brought the ratings with them. 1.5 million viewers tuned in, despite the season premiere not airing in all states.

Australia's favourite family are back.

Last night, Australia’s favourite family returned to our screens after a mere three-month hiatus; but clearly that was three months too many.

The season premiere of ‘Packed to the Rafters’ pulled in a massive 1.5 million viewers even without the entire state of Victoria watching, which instead screened the EJ Whitten AFL match.

Should we also attribute a little of that result to last nights record $90 million Lotto draw? Probably…but honestly, who can deny that the Rafter family have some serious pull on the ratings, despite the Lotto and the AFL.

The premiere could have easily pulled over 2 million viewers had the audience also included Melbourne. Sydney alone pulled in over 650,000 viewers.

Next week will be the real test, when ‘Rafters’ returns in all states. Victoria will screen the first two episodes back-to-back from 7.30pm. Watch out ‘homeMADE’ grand finale, you’ll be lucky if anyone watches…who am I kidding, the finale was already spoiled.

Which Rafter is getting hitched?

After finding out that we should "expect a wedding this season", we began thinking about exactly which Rafters' character it could be. Find out who we think is getting hitched.

Which 'Rafers' character will tie the knot?

After reading the rather cryptic statement in the media release yesterday that we should “expect a wedding this season” on ‘Packed to the Rafters’, I began thinking about exactly which Rafters’ character would be getting hitched.

First off, there’s Ben (Hugh Sheridan) and Melissa (Zoe Ventoura). They’re the most obvious choice since they’re already in semi-stable relationship.

Do we really want to see Ben get married though? If the writer’s do make him tie the knot, then they’ll be killing one of their best characters. We all love Ben because he’s such a screw up. Plus they already have a young newly-wed couple on the show with Nathan (Angus McLaren) and Sammy (Jessica McNamee), so we don’t really need a double up of storylines there.

Rachel (Jessica Marais) doesn’t really have any prospective partners on the horizon (as of the season finale), but who knows what’ll happen this season.

It’d be great to see Rachel in a proper relationship. After the hardship she endured during the first season, she definitely deserves a bit of love. But does she need to get married? I don’t think so. Not yet anyway.

Then there’s Carbo (George Houvardas) and Chrissey (Caroline Brazier), they broke off their bizarro-engagement in last season’s penultimate episode, but there is always the possibility of this relationship picking up again.

I’d love to see Carbo and Chrissy get hitched, if not just for the hilarity that will ensue. But how much comic-relief can two characters muster up without become two dimensional caricatures. We also don’t want to break up Ben and Carbo’s odd couple roommate situation.

So that leaves dear old Ted (Michael Caton) and his “lady-friend” Marjorie (Kate Fitzpatrick). Their relationship didn’t exactly reach “PDA gross-out” status last season, but the writers were clearly heading in that direction.

I think they’re probably the most logical couple to tie the knot. Their marriage won’t disrupt any of the existing-relationships we love so much. Plus there’s lots of possibilities for potential storylines, e.g. a rift between Julie (Rebecca Gibney) and Ted triggered by his new marriage, which is then amped up even more by her pregnancy i.e. hormones. Gold Logie 2010 anyone?

Anyway, there you have it. That’s my top pick for who I think will be getting hitched this season, closely followed by Warney’s shotgun wedding, but that’s a whole other can of worms.

What do you think? Am I right? Hit us up in the comments.
