Recap of ‘True Blood’ Episode 12: “You’ll Be The Death Of Me”.

Tara stays at Maryann's to rebuild her life.

Tara stays at Maryann's to rebuild her life.

Jason is still in jail. Rene is visiting him and Jason is telling him what he is leaving everyone including the fact that he wants Rene to have his jeep as he still believes he is guilty. Sookie comes to see him upon finding out he is in prison again and tells him to stop confessing to a crime he did not commit as she is close to finding out who the real killer is. Rene is acting suspiciously telling Jason those girls he may have murdered weren’t exactly innocent and Sookie can’t read his thoughts properly but both think nothing of it.

Tara is at Maryann’s who is helping her put her life back together and letting her stay at her house until Tara sorts herself out. Sam tries to call Tara but a man who works for Maryann takes away her phone from her room while she isn’t there and picks up and hangs up on the call. Sookie is working despite the situation with Jason and tells Sam she plans to hire a private investigator to find Drew Marshall and clear her brother’s name.  Jason is visited by a representative of an anti-vampire church called The Fellowship of the Sun who think that what he supposedly did is the right thing even if they can’t officially endorse it. Tara is swimming  and then comes back inside where she meets a guy nicknamed Eggs (Mehcad Brooks) who assures her that Maryann is a good person who has helped him when he was in a worse situation then she is. As this is going on we see Maryann sitting outside naked and sort of flickering. The pig that caused Tara’s crash is next to her and now we know she isn’t exactly who she says she is.

Sookie is distracted at work because everyone is thinking Jason is guilty and she can’t ignore their thoughts. She decides to leave then when she tries to start her car it won’t start. Rene offers to help her but confesses he doesn’t know much about cars and will get a mechanic friend to look at it later in the day. He offers Sookie a ride home in Jason’s truck and she accepts. We see that some critical wires in Sookie’s car have been deliberately cut as they both leave. Arlene’s kids find a vampire sex video from some of Rene’s things in the garage and when Arlene catches them she finds a Cajun dialect for actors tape with the pile of things the video came from. At Merlotte’s Sam recognizes the killers scent on Rene’s vest that he has left behind. Meanwhile Sookie and Rene arrive at Sookie’s place and she goes and makes them ice teas until she finally hears Rene’s thoughts and sees flashbacks of the deaths of women and realises he is the killer. She runs out of the house with Rene chasing after her who injures her in the doorway. Sam hurry’s to get to Sookie’s place to protect her and when he finds the remains of the struggle Sookie and Rene had and runs off into the woods to find them both. Bill wakes up in the middle of the day hearing Sookie’s call that she is in danger. Despite the fact that the sunlight will probably kill him he comes out to help her. He is almost near them when he collapses from the sun that is burning up his body. Sam is there by now fighting with Rene. Rene is winning but no one is paying attention to Sookie who knocks him over with a spade as he is kicking Sam. Sookie decides to end it all then and there and in self defense kills Rene by plunging the spade into the back of his neck. Bill is almost burnt to death and Sookie and Sam rush to bury him as she cries because she believes he is dead. The screen blackens as we assume Sookie faints and next we see Sookie wake up in her house on the couch. Lafayette and Tara are visiting her and Sam is looking after her.

At the police station despite his reluctance Andy has to free Jason as it is now obvious he isn’t the murderer. Arlene brings Sookie flowers and blames herself for what Rene did but Sookie doesn’t and isn’t mad at her. Tara and Sam are talking about where she has been and Maryann turns up to take Tara home. Sam knows Maryann and that she is not all she appears and she knows he is a shape shifter. Jason comes to visit Sookie as soon as he gets out and tells her he wants to make something of his life and Sookie just tells him he should look after himself. Bill is alive and reunites with Sookie.

Two weeks later and Sookie is back at work mostly healed after her ordeal with Rene. Marriage between a vampires and humans is legalized in Vermont and Arlene joyfully tells Sookie she and Bill can now marry. Sookie says nothing is planned at the moment but Sam still shows his disapproval of it all by making fun of those types of weddings and storms out. Jason attends a Fellowship of the Sun service and is extremely enthusiastic about their cause. Andy is drowning his sorrows at Merlotte’s after being proven wrong by Jason. Tara gives him a pity drink when working as she feels sorry for him. Eric and Pam bring Jessica back to Bill as they can’t deal with her as she is too annoying. She is now his responsibility and he will have to tell Sookie what has happened. Andy is drunk so Sookie calls his sister to take him home. He insists on going to his car and Sookie and Tara follow him to try to stop him. They eventually find his car after he thinks it has been stolen and find a dead body that may be a missing Lafayette. Season 1 of ‘True Blood’ ends with the screams of Sookie and Tara when they make this grisly discovery.

‘True Blood’ Episode 11 Recap: “To Love Is to Bury”

Bill buries Jessica with him in the ground in the process of making her a vampire. Pam helps as the magister does not trust Bill…

Eric and Bill try to teach Jessica how to be a vampire.

Eric and Bill try to teach Jessica how to be a vampire.

Bill buries Jessica with him in the ground in the process of making her a vampire. Pam helps as the magister does not trust Bill. Sam is at Sookie’s house and calls Tara to try to find out where she is as she is still missing. There is no answer and he hangs up. He and Sookie talk about her encounter with the killer earlier in the night. She says she remembers seeing in his mind him killing someone else but the details are fuzzy. They both go to bed.

Tara is arrested after her accident seen in the previous episode. The police don’t believe her story about the woman and the pig and think she is just drunk so arrest her. Amy and Jason are cleaning up the remains of Eddie. Jason is disgusted but Amy comforts him to help him get through it and they keep going. The next morning Sookie and Sam talk over some breakfast Sookie made.  She now remembers more details of the woman who died. Her name was Cindy and she was a waitress. She remembers the place it said on the apron that she worked and she wants to go on a road trip to find it. She wants to go alone but Sam insists and they head off together.

Jason is done with V after the experiences him and Amy have had. Amy is cleaning up the last bits of Eddie and doesn’t have time to react as he angrily leaves for work other than to say “love you.” The senator customer of Lafayette’s is on tv when he is working at Merlotte’s preaching in his political campaign against vampires and gays. Lafayette plans to confront him on this as the senator is definitely not against these things in real life as Lafayette knows. Sookie and Sam find someone who knew Cindy. She had a brother Drew Marshall who barely anyone knew and disappeared shortly after she was murdered. Tara rings her mother when in jail to get her to bail her out but can’t stop her acting hysterically and crying over the phone. Things just aren’t going Tara’s way.

It is near the end of the work day and Jason wants to go out partying with Hoyt and Rene. Both are busy and after making them swear to not tell anyone he tells them Amy is addicted to V. Rene asks if she has had sex with a vampire and Jason doesn’t know. Hoyt says he should help her get rid of the addiction if he loves her and they both say goodbye to him to head off for their nights. Sookie and Sam continue to investigate Cindy’s murder at the local police station but don’t get very far when the policeman notices Sookie’s bite marks. Eventually Sookie gets him to cooperate when she threatens to tell his wife about the affair he is having that she heard about in his mind. He promises to fax over a picture of Drew Marshall to the Bon Temps police as soon as he can and they are on their way home. Lafayette confronts the senator at a meeting he is having and all but threatens to expose him while having his picture taken with him making the senator very uncomfortable.

Amy makes Jason dinner to apologise for what she has done. Everything is going great until she brings out the one V vile she saved. Jason is mad at first but she promises it will be the last time they do V and he calms down and takes some with her. Jessica comes out of the ground and Bill tries to teach her about being a vampire. She doesn’t want to know his ways and rules and is still miserable. He wants her to mainstream and she doesn’t declaring he is the “worst maker ever.” Sam and Sookie are driving home and Sookie asks Sam if he loves Tara. He says he doesn’t know and when asked she says she thinks she loves Bill. When the murder has been caught they make a promise to go to a beach together and relax. Tara gets a visitor in prison. Her mother comes to say she still loves her but won’t bail her out or let her come home as she is on the path to hell. After all Tara has done for her she is shocked and says she doesn’t have a mother and tells her to leave. Amy is murdered by the same killer as all the other victims while her and Jason are high on V. He wakes up and finds her dead.

Bill tries to hand Jessica over to Eric as he can’t control her. Eric is reluctant but when Bill says he will be in his debt he accepts offering to show her how a real vampire feeds. A woman Maryann (Michelle Forbes) pays Tara’s bail. She believes she can help her as she is a social worker. She then offers to drive Tara home but when Tara says she can’t and doesn’t want friends or family to see her like this Maryann offers to let her stay with her. Eventually she accepts and on their way out we see Jason has been arrested by the police for Amy’s murder.

Sam and Sookie are back home talking which leads to a kiss. As this is happening Bill bursts in and fights with Sam. Sookie breaks it up and despite Bill saying how much he went through to be there she rescinds his invitation into her house as Sam was only looking after her. He is forced to go and Sookie mad at Sam too brushes him off and goes to bed. The police interrogate Jason about the murders. He doesn’t exactly confess but believes he has to be a killer because he was so close to all the victims. Andy tries to say he killed his Gran but that’s one murder he is sure he didn’t do. The police aren’t sure he is the killer but lock him up at his request. On his way to the cell we see the receptionist get a fax. It is a picture of Drew Marshall who it turns out is Rene.

‘True Blood’ Episode 10 Recap: “I Don’t Wanna Know”

The Magister decides Bill's punishment for killing Longshadow

The Magister decides Bill's punishment for killing Longshadow

Sookie is shocked at the sight of a naked Sam on her bed. When he tries to explain himself and tells her he wants to tell her something he has never told anyone else she thinks he is the murderer and runs away to hide in the bathroom. Peaking out from the shower curtains she notices that the dog from Merlotte’s is there and it turns into Sam. He is a shape shifter. Tara gets her exorcism in the early morning before dawn and despite some complaints from her it is going well. Meanwhile Amy is draining some blood from Eddie. She finds the True Blood Jason gave Eddie and tells him that Jason not telling her of this is almost as bad as lies in their relationship.

Sookie and Sam talk about Sam being a shape shifter. It is hereditary so he comes from a family of them but was adopted. He says his kind can’t help shape shifting during a full moon and Sookie accuses him of being a werewolf. He says he isn’t but that they are very dangerous. Sookie is amazed werewolves also exist and angry that Sam couldn’t tell her his secret. Tara’s exorcism is continuing and in a later part of the exorcism she has to kill a hallucination of her as a little girl that represents her demon. When it is done and she is home she hugs her mother and takes her out to breakfast to celebrate them both being free of their demons.

Amy pretends she doesn’t know about Jason giving Eddie true blood and suggests they treat Eddie more humanely to Jason and says she will buy him some True Blood. Sookie and Sam are helping to set up Arlene’s engagement party at Merlotte’s. Neither are really speaking as Sookie is still mad at Sam but she helps anyway with what needs to be done and Arlene’s extra demands. A senator Duke Smith (John Prowsky) comes to visit Lafayette for some V. He is nervous about giving a speech and as Lafayette is sold out of V he has sex with him instead to calm him down. Tara and her mum are on their way back from breakfast when her mum is sick. She stops at a pharmacy to get some medicine and spots Miss Jeanette in a wig. It turns out the whole exorcism thing was a lie and she threatens to report the woman to the police but doesn’t.

Sookie is lonely at the engagement party but there is nothing she can do about it so she just sits alone. Bill is at the tribunal and watches others brutally punished by the Magister (Zeljko Ivanek) as he waits for his trial. At Jason’s house Eddie tells Jason that Amy knew about the True Blood he gave him and insists she is playing him but Jason doesn’t believe her. Almost on que she comes to tell Eddie before her and Jason head to the engagement party that they might bring a tv down later for him. This reaffirms Jason’s belief in her and they leave.

Rene dances with Sookie there and tells her a vampire isn’t good enough for her. Sam cuts in and they dance and argue until Sam tells her he wishes he never told her because he knew this would be her reaction and he storms off. Amy is liked by Jason’s friends but he doesn’t like how she controls the relationship so Rene tells him to take action and take control. Bill’s trial is not going well because of how much he respects humans but Eric still vouches for him. Sookie is still unhappy and tells Arlene and Amy that she doesn’t know how they trust their men because everyone keeps secrets from one another. After complimenting Tara on how good she looks she confronts her about her relationship with Sam. They argue when Sookie doesn’t approve due to the reason we know of but Tara doesn’t and Tara says at least Sam doesn’t suck her blood which upsets Sookie and drives her away. Tara tries to apologise but it is too late as Sookie is gone. Andy is questioning Sam about his past. Sam remembers how he was abandoned at 15. Clearly Andy is trying to pin the murders on him but he can’t as Tara points out and she gets Sam away from Andy. They kiss and Sam gets mad because he feels like he is being used and doesn’t know what Tara want’s from him. She says she want’s nothing from him or anyone and leaves slamming the door.

Bill’s punishment is that he must make a helpless girl Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) a vampire. Sookie is getting more ice inside Merlotte’s for the party out the front when she is attacked after the power is out by the killer she escapes and runs into Sam who comforts her, their earlier fight forgotten. Tara is driving home drinking and crying after her horrible night and almost runs into a naked woman and a pig in the centre of the road then crashes. Jason and Amy come home arguing about Eddie who Amy decides to kill to settle it. Bill makes Jessica a vampire (he has never done this before.) There is some initial struggles but eventually he succeeds.

‘True Blood’ Episode 9 Recap: “Plaisir d’Amor”

Bill says goodbye to Sookie

Bill says goodbye to Sookie

Longshadow is strangling Sookie and about to bite her when Bill stakes him. This kills him and Ginger screams in horror at the blood pouring out of him onto Sookie as he dies. Once Longshadow is dead Sookie goes and cleans herself up. Ginger needs to be glamoured to forget the incident. Eric buys Bill a True Blood and they sit down to talk. Bill needs to be punished for killing another vampire under their laws. Eric offers to take Sookie away from Bill as the punishment but he refuses so the punishment is undecided for now.

Jason and Amy are driving Jason’s pick up home with Eddie tied up in the trailer. Jason doesn’t think what they are doing is right but Amy refuses to listen. Back at Fangtasia Pam gives Sookie a change of clothes because of her ruined outfit and helps her clean herself up. Sookie is grateful. Jason and Amy get home and bring Eddie down to the basement and tie him to a chair. Jason wonders what they are going to do with him after they have gotten some of his blood. Amy gets angry and pretty much dismisses the question as irrelevant. She drinks some of Eddies blood and seeing its effect Jason can’t resist joining in.

We see Tara where she was in episode 8 at Miss Jeanette’s. They talk about why she needs an exorcism and Tara is convinced but is shocked that her exorcism will cost twice as much as her mothers at $800 and goes home. Bill and Sookie arrive at Sookie’s house to find her cat Tina has been murdered and hung from a ceiling fan. Sookie is horrified and can’t sleep due to this and seeing how her Gran died in her mind. Bill comforts her and says its his fault but she says she chose to be with him and that its hers. She eventually settles down with him there and goes to sleep. Jason and Amy are kissing and before they have sex thank Eddie for his blood then have sex in the basement where he still is.

The next morning Jason and Amy are relaxing and having a picnic. Amy says Jason needs to eat natural food to get a better V experience. Upon hearing this and Eddies constant moans of pain that he can hear, Jason says they need to feed Eddie. Amy once again ignores what he says and distracts him by saying she loves him. After some hesitation he says it back.

Tara gets a visit from Sam. He brings flowers to apologise for the other day and says he wants a relationship. Tara doesn’t want one and she also says she can’t afford her exorcism. A frustrated Sam leaves. Later at Merlotte’s Arlene gets Sam’s permission to have her engagement party there. Jason now at work has problems and an argument with Rene as he can’t cut down a tree now as he cares about it due to Amy’s teachings about nature. Andy Bellefleur is at Merlotte’s having lunch and wanting to see Sam. Sookie gets mad at him for not being out hunting whoever is causing the murders and tells him of the death of her cat. When he doesn’t leave Amy covers for her and later calms her down. She says that people still love her including as hard as it is for her to believe her brother Jason.

Jason is at home and frustrated after his day. He has to move Eddie who is sick and sore because of his lack of V. Eddie and Jason talk about their lives. Jason hears about how sad and horrible Eddie’s life was until he realised he was gay and soon after became a vampire. He tries to tell Jason how crazy Amy is and how much more dangerous she is then him but Jason refuses to listen and goes out to get more beer. He comes back with some True Blood for Eddie who as he is still tied up gets some help from Jason to drink some. Tara gets her exorcism money in an envelope from Sam.

Eric, Pam and Longshadow’s replacement Chow (Patrick Gallagher) come to visit Bill. Bill needs to go away from Bon Temps and face a tribunal so they go to Merlotte’s so Bill can say goodbye to Sookie. Once there he asks Sam to protect her while he is gone. Sam grudgingly accepts. Eric warns the people in Merlotte’s that while no vampire has taken revenge for the fire that killed 3 of them they shouldn’t think it won’t happen and get too comfortable around them. Sookie is sad about Bill leaving but accepts it and Bill’s protection. Once Bill and the other vampires are gone she gets some comfort from Tara then goes back to work. Tara tries to give the money back to Sam. He won’t accept it and shows by what he says that he cares about her a great deal and she relents. They kiss.

At closing she is talking to Lafayette about what an interesting night its been when she spots Sam and Tara kissing in the back. She didn’t know of their relationship and storms out. Amy tries to stop her going alone because she needs protection but she says she will be fine as she is staying at Bills where people won’t look for her. Andy confronts Sam about lieing about belonging to a nudist colony. Sam is about to talk to him when he needs to go back inside before they talk because he forgot something. A stray dog from Merlotte’s follows Sookie to Bill’s and she lets it sleep in the bed with her for some form of safety at least in her mind. She wakes up hours later to find to her shock that the dog has been replaced with a naked Sam.

‘True Blood’ Episode 8 Recap: “The Fourth Man in the Fire”

Bill is still missing and Sookie thinks he could be one of the ones who were murdered.

Eric needs Bill's help to get Sookie to read some minds.

Eric needs Bill's help to get Sookie to read some minds.

In the remains of the vampires burnt down house seen at end of the last episode four coffins with badly decomposed bodies are found. Bill is still missing and Sookie still thinks he could be one of the ones who were murdered. She calls his house when she gets home and receives no answer. Tara’s mum Lettie Mae is cured of her alcoholism much to Tara’s surprise. She makes Tara some pancakes which she has never done in her life and says she always knew how but the demon wouldn’t let her.

Jason and Amy wake up feeling relaxed and still the sense of togetherness after taking V together. Jason is amazed to find they didn’t have sex but is so in awe of Amy he asks her to stay around. She accepts. Tara goes to see Sookie to tell her about how her mum has changed. They fight as Sookie is in a bad mood because of the thought of losing Bill and makes Tara so angry she leaves. At Jason’s Amy learns about his life and his loss of parents in a flood when he was young and more recently his Gran. She sympathises and despite what Jason says she thinks he can’t be as a bad of a brother to Sookie as he thinks he is.

At Merlotte’s Terry Bellefleur (Todd Lowe) who is helping out around the place thinks he saw Sam running naked in the forest the other day when he was fishing with his brother Andy. Sam denies it. That night Sookie lights a candle and leaves her house to go place flowers on Bill’s grave. She thinks he is dead and as she slowly walks back to her house crying an arm pulls at her leg from the ground. It is Bill who is alive thanks to Sookie’s warning phone calls as he stayed in the ground overnight. In their passion at seeing each other they have sex right there in the dirt.

The next day Amy and Jason go to Merlotte’s for lunch. Sookie is late for her shift and when Sam asks about the fire she tells him Bill is alive and she is happy about it despite the fact that clearly no one else is. It turns out the 4th coffin found contained a fang banger (vampire follower who they keep for sex and blood) not Bill. Lettie Mae comes home to find her daughter Tara looking at washing she has done. It turns out she has been at church and this doesn’t impress Tara who says that no matter what she does she is still “as fucked up as she is in the mind.”

Amy gets a job at Merlotte’s when she helps cover a busy Sookie’s section and shows how efficient she is. She is Dawn’s replacement and Sookie after having a pleasant conversation warns her of Jason’s womanizing ways but Amy isn’t having any of it and says Sookie underestimates her brother. Sookie volunteers to help a clearly flustered Arlene have a night out with Rene and volunteers to babysit her kids after Arlene apologises for her recent behaviour over Sookie seeing Bill. Sam pulls Tara into the back after she tells off Hoyt for complimenting her. Tara thinks she is in trouble but Sam just says both of them are the only ones who get how people are and who really get each other. This leads to sex. Everything is going great until after when Sam tells Tara that she grunts and she gets angry and leaves.

Arlene and Rene bring Arlene’s kids over to Sookie’s for the babysitting. At first she objects to Bill being there with her kids but after assurances from Sookie and putting some silver bracelets on her kids to prevent Bill from touching them she is fine with it. Everything goes well and on the way home from their night out Rene proposes to Arlene who accepts. When she gets back she has a chat with Sookie she asks to be her bridesmaid. Rene comments that it could be Sookie and Bill getting married soon with the new laws saying vampires can marry possibly getting passed. They just look nervously at each other.

Tara goes to have an exorcism from Miss Jeanette who has been expecting her. Eric visits Bill as he needs Bill’s permission to borrow Sookie for a problem he has been having. Tara and Jason follow Lafayette to find his source of V. His source is a vampire Eddie (Stephen Root) who he has sex with in exchange for V. When Lafayette leaves they kidnap him so they have a source for their V cravings. Sookie and Bill go and visit Fangtasia so Sookie can help Eric. She objects but has to help as Eric is the vampire area supervisor which means he is a powerful member of the community Bill can’t disobey and as Sookie is his she has to comply. Someone has robbed Fangtasia of $60,000. As Eric, Pam and Longshadow are owners they want to know who it is. Sookie reads the minds of their accountant who doesn’t know and a barmaid Ginger (Tara Buck) who does but her mind has been glamoured. The culprit is now known to be a vampire and Longshadow attacks Sookie when she announces this.

‘True Blood’ Episode 7 Recap: “Burning House of Love”

Recap of Episode 7 of True Blood.

True Blood

Jason meets Amy at Fangtasia.

Bill and Sookie finish off having sex and start talking. Sookie is happy she gave her virginity to Bill. She is surprised she can see him in the mirror but as Bill says vampires often start myths like that they can’t be seen in the mirror to protect themselves. Sookie tells Bill how Uncle Bartlett touched her inappropriately as a child and how her Gran banished him from the family after she was told what happened. Jason didn’t know which was why Uncle Bartlett was even at the funeral for her Gran. Meanwhile Jason goes to Lafayette for more V. He won’t give him any and even when Jason threatens violence Lafayette throws him out of the house. Bill shows Sookie the place through a trap door to under his house where he sleeps during the day. No one else knows where this is so it’s significant that Bill cares about her enough to tell her.

Tara is helping her mother pay her bills. Her mother claims she has a demon inside of her that causes her drinking and lack of job. She needs an exorcism to get rid of it. Tara doesn’t believe her and once she has sorted the bills out leaves. Sookie gets home from her night at Bills to find Jason taking some of her Gran’s property. He won’t tell her why he needs the stuff and his V addiction isn’t obvious to her. Sookie makes sure he leaves most of it behind as she gets him to leave except for some candlesticks he is carrying. Sam is fixing part of his trailer and cursing when Tara barges in for a visit. At first Sam is a bit angry but lets her stay as he is just in a bad mood. They talk about their having sex and how neither of them is good at relationships. Tara is really trying and decides to help Sam fix his trailer. While there Tara gets a call from the bank where her mother is trying to get a loan. Tara gets there to find her mum hysterical and angry at the bank staff for denying the loan so she takes her home.

At Merlotte’s the same homophobic customers that have picked on Lafayette in the past enter. Lafayette wants to beat them up but Sam stops him. Then they are both distracted by how happy Sookie is acting. Randi Sue is at one of the payphones calling Jason. He tells her he is going to Fangtasia and she breaks whatever relationship they had off with him after hearing this. Lafayette adds something to the homophobic customer’s food and gets his revenge. Sookie compliments Arlene on how nice she looks and Arlene wonders what is going on. Sam takes off the scarf Sookie is wearing to disguise the fact that Bill bit her and everyone finds out. Sookie isn’t ashamed and says she is proud of what happened despite how negatively everyone reacts. Jason goes to Fangtasia. Pam the bouncer glamour’s him into finding out why he is really there and despite his confession of wanting V lets him in. Jason tries to get V out of the barman Longshadow but a girl Amy Burley (Lizzy Caplan) warns him away and with a promise of V she has they leave. Bill confronts Uncle Bartlett after hearing Sookie’s story and kills him.

While all of this is going on Tara and her mother go to see Miss Jeanette (Aisha Hinds) so Lettie Mae can get her exorcism. Tara pays for it and it is performed using some sacred stones and the drowning of a possum that takes in the demon after it is released from Lettie Mae’s body via some chanting and drum beats from Miss Jeanette. Aftewards she tells Tara she needs an exorcism too stating all the unfortunate things in her life. Tara angry at her for saying those things leaves with her mother.

Sookie is working and ignoring taunts from customers when Bills old vampire friends Malcolm, Diane and Liam show up. They threaten her and others in the bar until Bill shows up to stop them. This was all to get Bills attention and it worked. He agrees to leave with them to get them to go and everything goes back to normal at Merlotte’s. Some customers want to burn down their house after hearing they have moved in nearby and despite Sookie’s warnings about how strong vampires are they don’t pay any attention.

Amy and Jason talk about their lives outside Fangtasia then leave. When back at Jason’s house Amy talks about how in touch with the environment she feels and how V enhances this. By mixing it with some ground up aspirin it enhances the affects and as Amy and Jason kiss and explore each other’s bodies they see things such as echoes of their bodies coming together and visions as if they are outside. Sookie goes to Bills house to warn him of the men who plan to burn down the other vampire’s house. He isn’t there and after checking where he sleeps Sookie falls asleep for the night. She wakes up the next morning to find Bill still gone and eventually the news that the other vampires have been burned alive in their house and Bill may have still been with them.

‘True Blood’ Episode 6 Recap: “Cold Ground”

Recap of True Blood Episode 6 “Cold Ground”.

Sookie speaks at her Gran Adele Stackhouse's funeral

Sookie speaks at her Gran Adele Stackhouse's funeral

Sookie finds her Gran’s body and stands in front of it in shock. A few moments later Bill comes in to check Sookie came home safe from her date and comforts her after he witnesses what has happened. Sam comes to do the same thing as Sookie’s front door is still open and Bill thinking he is the killer attacks him, strangling him until Sookie tells him to stop. Both men are there for Sookie and keep her calm as the police and coroner examine and take away her Gran. Sam tries to apologise for the fight that ended their date but Sookie tells him not to as she just wants to be left alone. The police question Bill as to why he was there and he tells them he was just checking on Sookie. He also tells them he thinks Sookie was the intended victim. They accept this and suggest along with Bill and Sam that Sookie shouldn’t be staying at her house alone. Sookie says she has to because it is her house and isn’t scared off despite what has happened.

The next morning well wishers including Tara, Lafayette, Arlene and Mrs Fortenberry come to bring Sookie food and some comfort. Apart from Tara and Lafayette they are more of a hindrance then a help as Sookie can hear all of their thoughts as she can’t block them out in her grief. Mrs Fortenberry looks to be taking her Gran’s pie out of the fridge as she puts some food in and Sookie gets mad at her. After this Tara and Lafayette take her upstairs to keep her away from the gossiping townspeople. She says she just feels numb about what has happened and Tara says this is the way she is supposed to feel. Jason who didn’t find out about his Gran’s death till the morning after as he didn’t answer his phone on the night storms into the house. He slaps Sookie, saying that this is all her fault. He then leaves before Andy Bellefleur can question him, even fighting Andy and drives off angry. Sookie takes a valium Lafayette gave her after the slap so she can get a peaceful sleep. Later Bill panics after he has a dream where Sookie is strangled by the killer. He speedily gets to her house after sunset to check on her only to find she is fine. He promises her he is there for her and watches her fall back to sleep.

At the funeral the next day Sookie notices her Uncle Bartlett (Cheyenne Wilbur) is there. He is estranged from her family so she doesn’t want him to be there but doesn’t say anything of it as she stands up to give a eulogy for her Gran. She gives a nice speech about what Adele Stackhouse did for her and the whole town and how she will miss her more than words can say. People don’t believe her as she hears in their thoughts and she tells them all to shut up before running away from the funeral. Tara’s mum Lettie Mae Thornton gives a speech about how Adele took care of Tara when she couldn’t and then the funeral ends. Jason goes off to find Sookie and apologise saying the murder wasn’t her fault. She says it doesn’t matter because they have nothing and is angry that he invited Uncle Bartlett but he doesn’t get why that is a problem. She leaves him standing alone and walks back to where the funeral was being held. Sam walks her home. Tara and her mother fight and Tara said she had no right to talk about Adele as she hated Adele. She leaves her mother and they are still at odds with each other.

Jason is suffering from V withdrawal symptoms so goes to take some more in his pick up but decides not to and throws it outside. He then decides he wants it and crazily searches for it in the dirt only to break down crying when he can’t. When Sam and Sookie get to her house he volunteers to stay and be there for her. She says she wants to be alone once again. As Sam is walking away from the house he finds Tara who has came to be with Sookie. She gets the message Sookie wants to be alone but she doesn’t so she takes Sam back to her place. Sookie eats the half of her Gran’s pie left over from when she took it upstairs and ate half with Tara and Lafayette after Mrs Fortenberry took it out of the fridge. She cries as she eats, clearly still grieving for her loss.

Sam is surprised Tara has her own place and that she didn’t tell him she needed somewhere to live after she left her mothers house and later Lafayette’s. Tara doesn’t know why he is surprised and after they have had sex she hurriedly leaves. Sam thinks it is his fault but Tara tells him it isn’t and goes. We see her go to her mum’s house and hug her. All is well between them both for the moment. Meanwhile Jason is having sex with Randi Sue, crying as he is still upset about his Gran and lack of V. Sookie decides she wants to have sex with Bill so runs to his house in a night gown. She loses her virginity to him and at the end he bites her with her permission so they can both feel the rush it will bring.

‘True Blood’ Episode 5 Recap: “Sparks Fly Out”

Recap of ‘True Blood’ episode 5 “Sparks Fly Out”.

Bill gives his speech at the Descendants of the Glorious Dead meeting.

Bill gives his speech at the Descendants of the Glorious Dead meeting.

Sookie and Bill arrive at Sookie’s house after their night out and are arguing about what Bill did to the cop. Sookie doesn’t think what Bill did is right and Bill explains that vampires have had problems with authority for a long time and it could have all gone a lot worse if he hadn’t restrained himself. Sookie doesn’t accept this and storms into the house. Bill says he won’t call on her anymore and drives off. Neither of them notices a mysterious dog is watching the entire fight from the bushes.

Next we see Tara confronting Lafayette at his house about supplying Jason with V. She is clearly very angry and talks of what happened at the hospital. Lafayette shows no remorse because he explained to Jason how to use it and Tara backs down because she knows while it was stupid to give Jason the V, Lafayette is right. On the morning after Sookie and her Gran talk about the upcoming meeting of the Descendants of the Glorious Dead that night. The meeting is being held in a church where Bill will talk about his life. Sookie explains she isn’t going out with Bill anymore and while not admitting they had a fight but saying he is too different to be her boyfriend makes it obvious to her Gran that there was a fight.

Jason shows Lafayette with a sausage what had to be done to him in hospital. Lafayette thinks what happened would have been very painful and decides to teach Jason how to use V properly. The trick is to use it in moderation, one drop is enough. Lafayette also explains how V affects different people in different ways then gives Jason a drop. Meanwhile at Merlotte’s Sookie is working and while filling some sauce bottles some sauce spills on her. Arlene says that “Bill would have liked that” and Sookie tells her to ask him herself as she isn’t dating him anymore. Arlene thinks that is good because otherwise Sookie may have been hurt or killed. She asks if Sookie is still going to the Descendants of the Glorious Dead meeting and Sookie says she is but only to support her Gran who has been working on it for weeks. Sam seeing his chance with Sookie asks her out on a date to the meeting with coffee after and Sookie with some hesitation accepts. Soon after Sookie learns of Tara covering for Jason by saying they were together on the night of one of the murders after Andy Bellefleur questions her as to if she has noticed them together.

She doesn’t know about them dating and goes to question Tara about it. Tara is angry about her date with Sam and Sookie doesn’t understand why because she doesn’t know they had sex. Sookie asks her why she covered for Jason and she says she was just protecting him. When she tries to talk about her date with Sam and why it makes Tara mad Tara tells her to mind her own business and leaves in a huff. Sookie goes out and now tells Andy that she had noticed Jason and Tara and that it’s such a shame that they think they need to hide their relationship. Andy knows Sookie is lying but can’t prove it and is amazed when Sookie tells him off for his thoughts.

That night at the meeting the whole town has turned out to hear Bill speak about his past and when he fought in the civil war. Jason’s friend Hoyt and his mother Maxine Fortenberry (Dale Raoul) are there helping set up. Maxine tries to get rid of the cross in the church encase it hurts Bill. She is unsuccessful so just covers it with a flag. Sookie and Sam show up together on their date and sit next to Tara who now shows no emotion about the situation and as far as we know is over the fact that they are on a date. Jason still high comes in soon after and notices Tara as a girl he is attracted to for the first time in his life. He doesn’t tell her this but asks to sit next to her specifically. Bill comes out once everyone is seated and removes the flag from the cross as it will not hurt him and hangs it back up. This leads in to the start of his speech where he explains that he is a patriot and fought for his country not because of political reasons that he didn’t know of at the time but because he and the other men he knew felt it was the right thing to do. During his speech some men try to annoy and distract him but fail. When he is finished speaking he invites people to ask questions. An old man asks if he knew one of his ancestors who fought in the civil war and Bill says he does. He tells the story of how the man died bravely rescuing a young boy who survived the war. The mayor of Bon Temps presents Bill with a picture he found in the archives of him and his family. This brings back sad memories for Bill as once he became a vampire he could never go and see his family again.

After Bill is done and people have talked to Bill with some even getting pictures, we see the rest of Sam and Sookie’s date. Everything is going well until they try and kiss and Sookie breaks it off and says she can’t just kiss someone so soon after her break up with Bill. Sam gets angry at her saying she shouldn’t care about Bill and that he is a monster. Sookie says that humans can be too and Sam is acting like one right now. She leaves angry and takes a cab home instead of letting Sam drive her.

Jason, Hoyt and Rene are at Merlotte’s. Jason now makes it clear to Tara that he likes her and when she finds out he is still high she tells him to come and see her to speak seriously when he is sober. Hoyt tries to flirt with a girl Randi Sue (Danielle James) which is working fine until he tries out some True Blood and toasts to her making her think he is a vampire. Tara is ready to think Jason has changed until she finds Jason having sex with Randi Sue out the back of Merlotte’s. In a rage she dumps the garbage she came out with to put in the bin all over them and storms back inside.

Sheriff Dearborne and Andy Bellefleur come to Bill’s house to question him about the murders. They have no evidence to tie vampires to it but due to bite marks on the murdered girls bodies think they might be the cause. Bill explains that neither he nor any other vampire can be the cause as a vampire would drain a dead corpse of blood. Looking significantly more uncomfortable then they did when they first got there and the cops leave his house, once again puzzled with no suspects for their investigation.

The night has brought back memories for Bill of when he first became a vampire. The vampire who turned him Lorena (Mariana Klaveno) lives in a house he found when lost on his way home from the civil war. After feeding a starving Bill she comes onto him. He says he can’t have sex with her because he has a wife and kids and thanks her for her hospitality. When Bill gets up to leave Lorena pins him down and bites him. When he wakes up he is disorientated and is horrified at the corpses of dead men around him. Lorena explains that they weren’t as polite as he was or hurt her so, instead of making them vampires to be her companion after he husband died in the war she killed them. She makes Bill drink from her so he doesn’t die and seals his fate as a vampire. She had promised Bill he would see his family again after but when he goes to visit them tells him that he can’t as they would get in trouble with the law for harbouring a vampire. This memory makes Bill angry and sad and we see him smash around some implements next to his fireplace and the parts of the fireplace holding the logs together. He sits back down on his couch and the scene cuts to Sookie arriving home in a cab from her date with Sam. She walks in to flickering lights and a pool of liquid she can’t identify until she turns on a working light and sees it is blood. Her Gran is dead and is the next victim in the series of murders around Bon Temps.

‘True Blood’ Episode 4 Recap: “Escape From Dragon House”

A recap of ‘True Blood’ episode 4, “Escape From Dragon House”.

“Escape From Dragon House” starts with the shock of another death and Sookie’s reaction of horror at the discovery of Dawn’s body. About a minute or so later Jason comes with flowers and alcohol to apologise to Dawn after their fight and drops the glass vase the flowers are in when he sees that Dawn is dead and comforts Sookie. Dawn’s neighbour comes in when she hears the noises and after she heard part of Jason’s fight with Dawn the other night thinks he did it and goes to call the police.

After we see some neighbours including Sookie’s friend from Merlotte’s Arlene gossip about the whole thing the, police question Sookie and she goes and sits on Dawn’s veranda. Jason continues to proclaim he is innocent but the police arrest him as he looks guilty and Detective Andy Bellefleur thinks he is. Sam arrives after Jason’s arrest and comforts Sookie. Today is Sookie’s day off but she wants to work to keep her mind off what she saw so she tells Sam to open Merlotte’s so she can work and people have a place to gossip and drink about the recent deaths and Jason’s multiple arrests.

Sookie and Bill flee Fangtasia

Sookie and Bill flee Fangtasia

After Jason is arrested he remembers he has the V (vampire blood) he got off Lafayette. Knowing he would get in even more trouble if found with this in custody he drinks the whole vial. A rather large amount of V which will have side effects Jason doesn’t know about. The police interrogate him for a while and try to trick him into confessing when suddenly the V kicks in and he has the erection he needed the other night when Dawn kicked him out. Not wanting the police to see this and think that he gets off on murder he insists he has to go to the toilet. Andy doesn’t want to let him but Sheriff Dearborne lets him go. He blocks himself in the toilet and refuses to come out.

Sookie goes home after Dawn’s body has been taken away. Both her and her Gran believe Jason is innocent no matter what people say. Sookie’s Gran tells her to use her gift and listen in on people to find the real killer and prove Jason innocent. Despite knowing how hard this is going to be with all of the nasty thoughts she usually has to block out Sookie says yes because she is anxious to know who the killer is and refuses to believe it is Jason. Meanwhile, Tara comes to the police station and because she knows the law, says Jason was with her the night before as an alibi and the police haven’t charged Jason with anything they let him go with her.

That night Tara and Sam see each other for the first time since they had sex. Tara tells Sam of her deception to the police and makes him swear that she was with Jason the night before not him if anyone asks. This makes also has the effect that things aren’t awkward with either of them in their role of working together after they had sex. Tara finds Jason at the back of the bar still with an erection. She takes him to hospital where they both find out the only cure for the damage caused by the overuse of V and time passed is to drain the penis of blood. Jason want’s Tara to stay for support and she begrudgingly does. Afterwards Tara drives a tired Jason home who falls asleep in her car. While watching him sleep she remembers how good to her he was when she came to the Stackhouse house when her drunk mum tried to hurt her. She smiles and keeps driving.

Sookie is having no luck hearing people’s thoughts in any leads on the killer so when Bill offers to take her to a vampire bar when Dawn and Maudette hung out Fangtasia she jumps at the chance. First she insists it’s not a date which Bill has no problem with. Sam objects when she asks to leave work early to go with Bill but doesn’t stop her. On the way to Fangtasia Sookie asks Bill if she looks nice. Bill says that he shouldn’t say because it isn’t a date but says Sookie looks like vampire bait. This is his way of complimenting her in this situation as he says that the outfit she is wearing means she will be wanted by more vampires.

They arrive and are checked at the door by a woman vampire Pam (Kristen Bauer) who Bill has known for a long time. They pass the check and once inside go to order drinks as Sookie looks around in amazement at the bar with all of the vampires and their fang bangers (vampire groupies). The barman Longshadow (Raoul Trujillo) recognises Dawn and Maudette and claims at least one of them wanted to die as most who hang out with vampires in vampire bars do. Sookie and Bill go and sit at a table. Sookie scans the crowd and finds all everyone is thinking about is sex apart from one vampire who Bill also knows and points out he is “the oldest thing in this bar” Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard). He beckons them over and with Pam at his side talks to Bill for a while about their past and how Bill is now mainstreaming.

Sookie questions him about the murdered women and he recognises them like Longshadow did but doesn’t really help with the identity of the murderer. He is about to question Bill further about his life when Sookie overhears the mind of an undercover cop and finds out a raid is going to occur at the bar while a vampire is illegally feeding on a human in the bathroom. Eric and Pam are astonished as to how she knows this but when the raid starts all four of them quickly flee.

On their way home Bill and Sookie are stopped by a cop. The cop is looking for people who have been at Fangtasia and when Bill doesn’t do any of the talking and wants to check Sookie’s neck for bite marks Bill gets mad. Much to Sookie’s disgust and horror he glamour’s the cop into giving over his gun, discourages him from doing this to a vampire or their companion ever again and also makes him let them go. We then see them driving into the dark back to Bon Temps and the screen fades to thenext scene.

Sam is acting suspiciously around Dawn’s house and as he isgoes to her bedroom and sniffs her sheet and pillow that she died on. He continues to do this for reasons unknown to the audience at the time and this is where ‘True Blood’ ends for this week.

They won’t let her inside until Bill tells them to and Sookie enters the house. They all want Sookie’s blood and try to attack her until Bill says “Sookie is mine.” He has to say this so she won’t be fair game to all vampires as he tells an angry Sookie later on and they leave her alone.

Bill is hungry and the vampires offer blood from one of their human slaves Jerry (Nicholas Gonzalez). As he is about to feed of Jerry Sookie stops him just in time when she reads Jerry’s mind and finds out he has hepatitis D, a disease while relatively harmless to humans weakens vampires. ‘True Blood’ Episode 2 Recap: “The First Taste”

After the surprise ending to episode 1 of True Blood episode 2 starts off in the same place with the Rattray’s getting their revenge on Sookie for when she stopped them draining Bill. They continue to bash her almost to the point of death when Bill comes and saves her. He then carries her off and we switch scenes to the police station where Jason is being forced by the police Andy and Bud to watch the sex tape he didn’t know was being taped of him and Maudette not long before her death. The tape exonerates Jason and despite that the police still believe it was him. They can’t prove it though and are forced to let him go.

Next we see Bill carry Sookie till they are beside a river where he makes her drink his Blood. Vampire blood has healing properties and this saves her life after the brutal beating she had to endure before Bill rescued her. They have a conversation where Sookie reveals to Bill that she is telepathic but can’t hear his thoughts. She describes thoughts to him as a “string of consciousness” often affected by the emotions the person is feeling or occasionally thoughts just come across as pictures. Because of this she cannot date and one of the many reasons she is interested in Bill when she hasn’t been in anyone else becomes clearer. Sookie goes to inspect the Rattray’s trailer which has been destroyed by Bill under the guise of a tornado the next morning after he killed them to save Sookie. This proves just how strong Bill is to Sookie and that she may have underestimated vampires.

Meanwhile on that same night, Tara comes home from work to find her mother Lettie Mae Thornton (Adina Porter) drunk and passed out. She calls her cousin Lafayette to pick her up because she can’t face cleaning her mother up and he take her to a party. A guy hits on Tara but as she still holds out hope that someday Jason will notice her someday, she scares him off.

After being released from the police Jason goes for some comfort after his terrible night to his current girlfriend Dawn’s (Lynn Collins) house. She comforts him and he sleeps over at her place where they end up having sex in the morning. We see Bill walk Sookie home and he promises on the way that if it makes her happy he will attend her grandma’s descendants of the glorious dead meeting. Sookie and her grandma are thrilled and despite Jason and Tara’s nervousness of Bill he comes to meet Sookie’s grandma the next night.

Bill turns up and after Sookie invites him in so he can enter her house after learning that vampires need an invitation to enter a human’s home. Sookie’s grandma Adele asks Bill some questions about his time in Bon Temps when he was still alive and he has revealed he lives in his family’s house right near where Sookie lives, he takes Sookie for a walk with Jason’s objections. Jason is told off by Adele in front of everyone. He doesn’t like this and after having an argument with his grandma he and Tara have a conversation about how they feel they are just trying to protect Sookie. Suddenly Jason remembers that he was meant to pick up Dawn from work and leaves in a hurry. Tara is left alone once again like the night before.

As Bill and Sookie walk we learn that now that Sookie has drunk his blood he can sense her more easily and come to her rescue if she needs it. Sookie asks about the vampire’s power to glamour people into giving them what they want. When Bill tries to do it to her on her insistence it doesn’t work. He is amazed by this and Sookie just laughs at how much he doesn’t like being in control. After more time passes, Bill tells Sookie he likes her hair down and after she takes a clip out of her hair he sniffs it, telling her he can smell the sunlight on her skin. Then they kiss passionately and because Bill is overexcited his fangs pop out. Immediately after this he takes Sookie home. Jason wakes up in Dawn’s house in the morning and notices she has vampire bite marks he doesn’t like this but never mentions it to her. Later on we see Dawn has tied up Jason as revenge for being late the night before and she leaves him that way for the rest of the day much to his disgust. That night, Sookie goes to Bill’s house to give him the number of an electrician to help with some renovations he is doing himself. Instead she meets some vampires she doesn’t know at his door and this is where this episode ends and leaves us wondering what will happen next.

‘True Blood’ Episode 1 Recap: “Strange Love”

2691000896_0dfffb8827_o

The first episode of True Blood starts with a small scene showing how Vampires thanks to the synthetic Japanese blood drink True Blood can live in the general population but how they aren’t really accepted by parts of the population. A vampire reveals how strong his race is by scaring a couple who are trying to buy True Blood and physically threatening a man who impersonates vampires. We first meet the lead character Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) when she is at her job waiting tables at Merlotte’s Bar and Grill in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana run by Sookie’s boss Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell).

Sookie can hear the thoughts of every person she meets until one day Bon Temps’ first vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) visits Merlotte’s. Sookie is immediately drawn to him and comes over to talks to him as soon as he looks at her. Merlotte’s doesn’t have any True Blood so he orders some red wine and Sookie goes to get it for him. When she gets back from talking to her waitress and friend Arlene (Carrie Preston), her feisty friend who has just quit her job Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) and Merlotte’s eccentric cook Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) Bill is sitting with Mack and Denise Rattray (James Parke and Karina Logue). These two characters hate Sookie and are only talking to Bill so they can trick him into going with them so they can drain him of blood. Vampire blood is the new drug craze as it makes humans feel healthier and increases their sex drive.

Sookie knows this because she can hear what they are thinking and despite the protests of her friends she goes after them. She finds them in the parking lot draining Bill and attacks Mack with a chain. Mack is down on the ground and Denise threatens her with a knife which she drops when Sookie fights her. Sookie picks this up and threatens Denise with it until she leaves with Mack. Sookie helps Bill and takes off the silver the Rattray’s put on him to restrain him. Denise driving for an injured Mack tries to run over so Sookie helps Bill shift into the trees where she looks after him till he is better after the Rattray’s drive off.

Once Bill is feeling a bit better he has a conversation with Sookie. He offers her the blood that was drained from him as a reward for helping him but she refuses it. By now Bill realises she isn’t the average human and asks her; “What are you?”She refuses to answer other than that she is a waitress. Bill makes her promise to not reveal the Vampires weakness to silver as other humans would exploit it. Sookie leaves Bill wondering what she is other then a waitress with a promise to see him again as she goes back to Merlotte’s to finish work for the night.

That night after work we see Sookie’s house where she lives with her gran Adele Stackhouse (Lois Smith). Her gran is happy that Sookie met and likes a vampire and asks of Sookie can ask him to talk to her history group on the civil war descendants of the glorious dead because she knows his age and that he owe’s Sookie a favour. Sookie dreams of Bill that night and it becomes even more obvious to the audience how much she likes him The next morning after hearing what happened with the Rattray’s Sookie’s brother Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) after offering to go see the Rattray’s about what they did, warns her to stay away from Bill as he thinks all vampires are dangerous. Sookie refuses. Soon after Jason is implicated in the murder of a woman he was involved with Maudette Pickens and is arrested by the police Detective Andy Bellefleur (Chris Bauer) and Sheriff Bud Dearborne (William Sanderson), the town sheriff who think he is the murderer despite having no evidence to pin the crime on him. Jason’s friends Rene Lenier (Michael Raymond-James) Arlene’s boyfriend and Hoyt Fortenberry (Jim Parrack) are sworn to secrecy so that Sookie doesn’t find out Jason has been arrested till near the end of the episode.

Meanwhile, sookie meets Bill again while at work a few days later she tells him what he is asks him to meet with her after work to talk about the favour for her gran. All seems to be going well until the end of the episode when Sookie finishes work and goes out the back and looks for Bill on the way to her car. He isn’t there and as she is about to get into her car the Rattray’s spring out of nearby bushes and start attacking her as revenge for the draining incident.

True Blood has one of the best pilots I have seen in many years and with the cliff hanger at the end of episode 1 it is hard to not keep watching this amazing show.

‘True Blood’ First Look

True Blood, the new HBO drama from Alan Ball (Six Feet Under), premieres February 10th on Showcase.

Here’s our first look at the new vampire drama.

true_blood

True Blood is the new HBO series created by Alan Ball (Six Feet Under) and based on the Sookie Stackhouse Vampire Mystery series by Charlaine Harris. The title comes from the recently invented Japanese synthetic blood drink True Blood that vampires can drink so they can live in mainstream society.

Sookie is a mind reading waitress who works at Sam’s bar Merlotte’s. This is the place where she meets Bill, the first vampire in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. True Blood is about what happens in this small town with the recent event of Vampire’s going public with what they are.

The stars of this show are Anna Paquin in her Golden Globe award winning role of Sookie Stackhouse, the good vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), Sookie’s boss Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammel) and Sookie’s best friend Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley).

A main character to note especially for the Australian audience is Sookie’s brother Jason Stackhouse as he is played by Aussie actor Ryan Kwanten. Side characters such as the cook for Merlotte’s Lafayette Reynolds (Nelson Ellis), Arlene Fowler (Carrie Preston) a waitress at Merlotte’s  and Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) Sherriff and powerful  vampire of the district  provide interesting commentary on Sookie’s life and add their own special part to the show.  A notable guest star is actress Lizzy Caplan who brings her on unique touch to the show playing Amy Burley, a love interest for Jason. This wonderful cast really make the show what it is.

As a show, True Blood doesn’t hold back on violence or sex scenes and being a HBO show it doesn’t have to. It’s dark tone and almost constant cliff hangers make it addictive and keep you coming back for more. A second season begins in the US in May. With this and the book series it seems the Vampire genre can be popular outside of the Twilight fandom and provide exciting television.

True Blood begins February 10th on Showcase.
