The Daily Telegraph reports that Seven and Nine are set begin a bidding war over a new local version of ‘The X Factor’.

The show’s creator Simon Cowell called a summit in London last week, which Nine’s Director of Production and Development Andrew Backwell, Seven’s Head of Programming Tim Worner and Sony Music CEO Dennis Handlin all attended.

Despite producing a failed attempt in 2005 by Network Ten, Cowell hopes to overtake the current global success of the ‘Idol’ format and make the show a worldwide phenomenon.

Cowell told the reps an Australian version would have to be made “my way or the highway”, said one source.

“He said that any other version would have to match his production values and his uncompromising vision, which would cost at least $20 million for 21 hours of television.”

Seven is believed to be making a very aggressive bid for the format, while Nine, who is equally interested, were also quite conscious of the costs involved in producing the format.

“One way or another, expect it to be on air around February next year,” added the source.

‘The X Factor’ has become a massive hit in the UK, turning out one of the biggest names in pop, Leona Lewis.

US network FOX announced plans to bring the format stateside after Cowell leaves ‘American Idol’ next season, joining the other 21 local versions across Europe and the Middle East.

According to The Daily Telegraph’s Sydney Confidential, ‘Australian Idol’ may be rested in 2010, despite previously being announced as returning this season.

The article states that Industry insiders believe that the Network Ten reality series has been shelved and that the judges contracts have not been renewed.

The later has been confirmed by Ian “Dicko” Dickson.

It’s widely believed that the network are hoping to avoid another year of embarrassing ratings, following last year’s underwhelming season.

A mere 1.4 million viewers tuned in to watch Stan Walker crowned as the newest ‘Australian Idol’ last year, a long way from the 3.34 million who saw Guy Sebastian win in 2003.

Ten’s upcoming Commonwealth Games coverage have also been linked to the sudden reversal, with the Games running from October 3 to 14 — directly in the middle of the usual ‘Idol’ season.

It’s believed that the network will make their decision on whether to bring ‘Idol’ back in 2011 later in the year.

“[Ten] have asked [production company] Fremantle [Media] for ideas on how to relaunch in 2011,” said one source.

So what do you think? Are Ten making the right decision shelving ‘Idol’ this year? Will it return in 2011? Is this all just a big rumour?

Sound off in the comments.

Emma Cam and Jeremy Reading, who were favourites to win ‘Beauty and he Geek Australia’, have taken out the top spot in the ‘Geek’ grand final.

The duo beat fellow finalists Lisa McMahon & Corin Storkey and Michelle Smith & Peter Scott.

In the final episode, the teams took to the streets to take part in their own “Amazing Race” style challenge. With only a book of clues and internet connected laptop in hand, the three teams raced through Sydney, each with the task of tracking down three previously eliminated contestants — who were scattered throughout the city.

The first two team to arrive back at the ‘Geek’ mansion were Lisa & Corin, followed by Emma & Jeremy. Michelle & Peter were the last team to arrive, eliminating them from the show.

The final win came down to quiz over how much each contestant knew about their respective partner.

Everyone answered correctly, up until Lisa’s final question where she was asked what sport was Corin was playing when he broke a bone when he was young.

The correct answer was “rugby”, Lisa however answered “badminton”.

This one incorrect answer ensured Emma would have the leg up when she answered the final question correctly, winning her and Jeremy the $100,000 cash prize.

The series has been a solid performer for the Seven Network, averaging 1.04 million viewers over the course of the series, topping out at 1.21 million.

Seven have already commissioned a second series of ‘Beauty and the Geek Australia’. Applications are now open.

Eamon Sullivan has out-cooked fellow finalists Rachel Finch and Kirk Pengilly to become Australia’s first ‘Celebrity MasterChef’.

After 10 weeks of challenges and 15 eliminations, the ‘Celebrity MasterChef’ finale came down to the three iconic challenges, the taste test, the invention test and the final pressure test.

In round one, the taste test, the contestants had to identify as many ingredients as they could in guest chef Sean Cononolly’s Paella.

Sullivan bowed out after only 2 ingredients, after mistakenly naming thyme instead of rosemary. Finch went on to name 8 ingredients, behind Pengilly with a maximum 10.

In the second round, the dessert-only invention test, the contestants were were given the option to choose either chocolate or strawberries as their core ingredient.

Pengilly’s rich dark chocolate cake with whipped cream and chocolate-dipped raspberries was a big hit with the judges, but the presentation left something to be desired. He scored 22 out of a possible 30 points, placing him in the lead with 32 out of 40.

After several failed attempts at a strawberry bavarois, Finch turned to plan B to serve up a strawberry semifreddo, which the judges likened to a children’s popsicle — giving her a score of 14 out of 30, brining her total to 22 out of 40.

In an attempt to recoup some significantly needed points, Sullivan challenged himself by creating a mutli-layered chocolate delice. In the end his gamble paid off, with the judges praising his chocolate dessert giving him a perfect score of 30 out of 30 — tying him with Pengilly with 32 out of 40.

In the final round, the pressure test, the contestants were pushed to the edge as they attempted to recreate a baked chicken in salt crust with hay, a dish created by ‘2010 The Age Good Food Guide, Chef of the Year’ Andrew McConnell.

As the clock ticked down, the contestants struggled to plate up all the components of the dish. It came right down to the wire for Pengilly, who finished in the final seconds.

Finch received 24 out of 30 for the final challenge, giving her a grand total of 46 points; followed by Pengilly with 23 out of 30, totalling 55 points; but in the end Sullivan came out on top with 27 out of 30, making him the winner with 59 points.

Sullivan wins the title of Australia’s first ‘Celebrity MasterChef’, plus $50,000 for his charity Swim, Survive, Stay Alive.

‘Celebrity MasterChef’ returns next year on Network Ten, along with the original and a ‘Junior MasterChef’ spin-off.

Melbourne-born, New Zealand-raised Stan Walker has won the title of the seventh ‘Australian Idol’.

Despite the sweltering heat, the two finalists took to the stage outside the Sydney Opera House as the 2009 winner was announced.

The 18-year old triumphed over his fellow finalist 17-year old Hayley Warner, in the 2-hour live event.

Joining the ‘Australian Idol’ top 12 singers on stage were Michael Buble, Mika, Wes Carr and Guy Sebastian — who performed solo due to Jordin Sparks’ last minute cancellation.

While ‘Australian Idol’ has struggled in the ratings this season, falling below the magic 1 million viewer mark on several occasions — the series is still expected to return in 2010, thanks to the show’s continued “stickiness” on the web, mobiles and through other advertising avenues.

Walker wins a recording contract with Sony Music and a $200,000 artist’s development fund to further his music career.

His debut single “Black Box” is now available on bandit.fm and iTunes.

Primary school teacher, Toby Moulton, has withdrawn himself from ‘Australian Idol’ in a shocking opener to the “Noughties” theme night, even before the country’s verdict was revealed.

Moulton, 30, expressed his decision return to teaching, following his 3-month journey on ‘Idol’.

“After many, many hours of soul searching and many sleepless nights, I have decided to withdraw from the competition tonight – I’m not sure if it want a career as a singer, and these four people do,” Molton said of his fellow competitors.

“They each have an enthusiasm and drive that I cannot match and I must step aside so that they have the best chance to prosper as young Australian artists.”

Molton thanked his fans for all their support throughout the competition, before host Andrew Günsberg finally revealed the county’s verdict.

Week 9’s verdict placed Moulton in the bottom three with Nathan Brake and James Johnston. Had it not been for Moulton’s decision to leave the comp, 18-year old Johnston would have ultimately been eliminated from the show.

As the show resumed its regularly scheduled programming, the remaining 4 contestants, Haley Warner, Stan Walker, Johnston and Brake took to the stage performing the best of the “Noughties” under the tutelage of Good Charlotte brothers Joel and Benji Madden.

Read Toby’s farewell speech:

After many, many hours of soul searching and many sleepless nights, I have decided to withdraw from the competition tonight.

I have come to a point where I have realised that at this stage I do not want a career in music and these four people do.

They each have an enthusiasm and drive that I cannot match and I must step aside so that they have the best chance to prosper as young Australian artists.

I must be real with myself and feel I can no longer continue on this adventure.

My biggest consideration when making this decision was those beautiful people who have become fans. I will miss the smiles, hellos and beautiful messages you have blessed me with.

I know that many of you have invested many hours and money on me, all I can say is I’m very sorry if I’ve let you down.

I’m sorry to my family and friends who have helped me in so many ways…you know how much…particularly my mum, dad, Locky and Cam, who have travelled from home to be here tonight.

I pray you will understand that I have to make the right decision for me and my future at this time.

I hope I have been able to bring you joy through my songs and through the person I am.

I know many of you identified with me…the school teacher who just decided to have a go…someone who acted on his passion, I hope my decision doesn’t leave you downhearted.

I have had the most amazing experience of my life, I now know who I am.

I am a teacher. I am a teacher who knows he can sing and is no longer afraid from being heard.

To my school kids, I told all of you to have a go, especially at things you are passionate about.

I am sorry if I have disappointed you.

All of Australia knows how much I care about you all, and how much I love my job.

I think it’s taken this experience to realise this.

My decision in no way reflects on Australian Idol and all the wonderful people involved on the show. You have all been incredible, thank you for all your help, encouragement and support. I feel blessed to consider you my friends.

Thank you for all the time and effort, I’ve had the time of my life. I simply know in my heart of hearts I can no longer continue.

Thank you to my fellow contestants, you have been an inspiration to me.

If it’s ok with you guys, I’d love to be up onstage, with you guys at the grand final. I can’t wait!

I’ll miss you all and pray you all continue to shine and never forget the magic of music.

Thank you.

Breaking News – Putting to rest weeks of rumours and speculation over who will replace Paula Abdul on ‘American Idol’, it has now been announced that Ellen DeGeneres will fill the fourth judges seat on the music comp. FOX have just issued a media release, check it out.

MEDIA RELEASE

ELLEN DEGENERES JOINS “AMERICAN IDOL” AS NEW JUDGE

Ellen DeGeneres

Emmy Award-winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has joined AMERICAN IDOL as a fourth judge. DeGeneres will sit alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi and offer her own unique perspective to the contestants throughout the competition.

The ninth season of AMERICAN IDOL premieres January 2010 on FOX. DeGeneres will join the judges’ panel after the auditions, which will feature appearances by guest judges Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Shania Twain.

“I’m thrilled to be the new judge on AMERICAN IDOL,” said DeGeneres. ”I’ve watched since the beginning, and I’ve always been a huge fan. So getting this job is a dream come true, and think of all the money I’ll save from not having to text in my vote.”

“I could not be more excited to have Ellen join the AMERICAN IDOL family,” said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “Ellen has been a fan of the show for many years, and her love of music and understanding of the American public will bring a unique human touch to our judging panel. I can’t wait for this next season to begin.”

“We’re all delighted to have Ellen join our ninth season of AMERICAN IDOL,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “Beyond her incredible sense of humor and love of music, she brings with her an immense warmth and compassion that is almost palpable. She is one of America’s foremost entertainers, and we cannot wait to have her join our team.”

Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for FOX added, “We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres join the AMERICAN IDOL judges’ table this season. She is truly one of America’s funniest people and a fantastic performer who understands what it’s like to stand up in front of audiences and entertain them every day. We feel that her vast entertainment experience – combined with her quick wit and passion for music – will add a fresh new energy to the show.”

A beloved television icon and entertainment pioneer, DeGeneres’ distinctive comic voice has resonated with audiences from her first stand-up comedy appearances through her work today on television, in film and in the literary world. DeGeneres has made a home for herself in the daytime arena with her hit syndicated talk show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” The show, now entering its seventh season, won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host four years in a row and has earned a total of 29 Daytime Emmy Awards.

DeGeneres was recently included in Forbes’ Top 5 “Most Influential Women in Media” and was voted “Best Daytime Talk-Show Host” by Parade.com readers. In addition, DeGeneres has been voted “Favorite TV Personality” by The Harris Poll’s annual favorite television star list beating out Oprah Winfrey and Jay Leno. DeGeneres was included in MSNBC’s “Power players who shape your TV habits.” DeGeneres also was honored with Television Week’s Syndication Personality of the Year and voted No. 1 in Oxygen’s “50 Funniest Women Alive” special in the company of such comedic legends as Carol Burnett and Lily Tomlin and has been included in TIME’s 100 Most Influential People.

DeGeneres had the honor of hosting the highly rated 79th Annual Academy Awards and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Performance In A Variety or Music Program. This follows her 2005 stint hosting the Primetime Emmy Awards, which marked her third time hosting the show. Her performance hosting the 2001 award show garnered her rave reviews for providing a perfect balance of wit with heartfelt emotion to the post-September 11 telecast audience. DeGeneres won an American Comedy Award for her inaugural effort hosting the show in 1994. Additionally, DeGeneres co-hosted AMERICAN IDOL’s very successful IDOL GIVES BACK special that raised money for children in extreme poverty in America and Africa.

In 2008, DeGeneres became the newest face for CoverGirl. The national print and commercial campaign for Simply Ageless Foundation premiered in December and the product quickly became No. 1 in the marketplace, outperforming expectations. DeGeneres partnered up with American Express in 2005 where she appeared in their ad campaign “My Life, My Card,” including a national commercial and a print campaign. DeGeneres later appeared in the national commercial “My Life Goal: to work with animals” which won a Primetime Emmy Award.

Prior to the launch of her talk show, DeGeneres scored simultaneous achievements on stage, film and in the literary world. She enjoyed unprecedented popular and critical response to her character, Dory, the fish with extreme short term memory, in the blockbuster animated feature film, “Finding Nemo.” At the same time, DeGeneres crossed the country on a 35-city stand-up comedy tour, entitled the “Here and Now” tour. Her stop at the famed Beacon Theater in New York was turned into an HBO special and was subsequently nominated for two Emmys. Finally, in October, Simon & Schuster published DeGeneres’ second book, “The Funny Thing Is….,” comprised of the author’s comedic short stories and essays. The book hit the New York Times’ Bestseller list upon its release. In 2005, DeGeneres was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album for the audio version of the book. Her first book, “My Point…And I Do Have One,” published in 1995, debuted at No. 1 on the The New York Times bestseller list.

DeGeneres’ career began as an emcee at a local comedy club in her hometown of New Orleans, which led to national recognition in 1982 when her videotaped club performances won Showtime’s “Funniest Person In America” honor. When DeGeneres moved to Los Angeles she filmed her first HBO Special, “Young Comedians Reunion,” then in 1986 “Women of the Night.” That same year, DeGeneres scored a first by becoming the first female comedian to be summoned by Johnny Carson to sit down with him after her performance. In 1989, DeGeneres received a Cable Ace nomination for her “Command Performance: One Night Stand” special. She was also named “Best Female Stand-Up” at the 1991 American Comedy Awards.

DeGeneres began her acting career in television on the FOX sitcom “Open House.” She moved on to ABC’s “Laurie Hill,” prior to being offered a part on “These Friends of Mine” by ABC. After the first season, the show was renamed “Ellen.” Running from 1994 to 1998, the show garnered record ratings, with DeGeneres receiving Emmy nominations each season in the Best Actress category. In 1997, DeGeneres was the recipient of the coveted Peabody Award as well as earning an Emmy for writing the critically acclaimed “Puppy Episode” when her character came out as a gay woman to a record 46 million viewers.

Both on and off screen, DeGeneres’ humanitarian efforts take center stage. DeGeneres is passionate about bringing awareness to the people of New Orleans, her hometown, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina and her efforts have resulted in “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” raising over $10 million to improve the lives of New Orleans residents. Overall, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has raised over $50 million and brought attention to various causes, including global warming and animals. Additionally, DeGeneres continues to raise awareness about breast cancer, and served as spokesperson for General Mills’ breast cancer awareness initiative, Pink for the Cure, and hosted special episodes of her show to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Since she was first nationally recognized in 1982 as a comedian in New Orleans, Ellen’s many contributions to the entertainment industry have earned her numerous accolades including a Golden Apple Award as Female Discovery of the Year from the Hollywood Women’s Press Club; a Lucy Award honoring women in Television and Film, as well as an Amnesty International Award.

AMERICAN IDOL is created and executive-produced by Simon Fuller, founder of 19 Entertainment; and executive-produced by Cecile Frot-Coutaz, CEO, FremantleMedia North America, Inc. and Ken Warwick, Executive Producer, FremantleMedia North America, Inc.

The country music star defeated ‘Morning Show’ co-host Kylie Gillies, who was eliminated earlier in the night.

Her elimination from the comp left the path clear for Brand to take on ‘Today Tonight’ host Matt White in the final freestyle routine, in which the later received a perfect 10 from each of the judges.

But despite Matt White’s perfect score, it wasn’t enough for him to defeat Brand, who’s became a big viewer favourite in the lead up to the finale.

The night also saw live performances from ‘Packed to the Rafters’ star Hugh Sheridan, the cast of musical ‘Jersey Boys’ and from the winner himself Adam Brand.

Hosts Daniel MacPherson and Sonia Kruger thanked Australia for supporting the show in yet another successful season of the celebrity dance comp, which has performed well amidst strong competition.

The show is expected the return for a tenth series in 2010.

MTV star Audrina Patridge "graudates" from 'The Hills' and slams co-star Heidi Montag's musical career.

Reality television starlet Audrina Patridge (currently dating Australian bmx biker Corey Banhart) has announced she is “graduating” from the popular MTV show ‘The Hills’.

In an interview with E! News’ Marc Malkin, Patridge, who is promoting her horror flick ‘Sorority Row’, joked she was ‘graduating’ from the show that made her famous, confirming she would not be back for the next season.

When probed about co-star Heidi Montag’s Miss Universe performance, Patridge was less passive saying, “A lot of singers work their ass off … I just don’t think she’s taking it that serious which is annoying to me, to all music lovers.”

According to sources, Patridge has left the show to realize her own reality dreams, however plans for her own show have not been announced.

Despite the depature of both Patridge and Lauren Conrad, stars Heidi and Spencer Pratt confirm they will be staying on board with the show, suggesting a 6th season of ‘The Hills’ is pending.

Major advertising partner Telstra have leaked the final episode of 'homeMADE' on Bigpond TV a week early, revealing 37-year old Jason Sullivan to be the winner.

Jason Sullivan has been revealed as the winner of Nine's renovation show 'homeMADE'.

Jason Sullivan has been revealed as the winner of Nine’s renovation show ‘homeMADE’.

Going by Nine’s recent scheduling pattern, the final two episodes should have aired back-to-back last night. But due to the AFL airing in some states, the second episode was pushed back a week.

The scheduling change obviously didn’t reach major advertising partner Telstra, who posted the final episode of ‘homeMADE’ on Bigpond TV a week early; revealing Sullivan to be the winner.

The 37-year old model turned designer, was the only contestant on the show to have no formal design experience. His only exposure to design was through his time in Paris, London, Milan, New York, Rome and Los Angeles where lived as a model.

Sullivan takes home $100,000 prize money in the grand finale, in which he’s pitted against 31-year old Queensland designer Darren Palmer.

In last night’s penultimate episode, the two were tasked to renovate an entire house each. Both contestants were presented with identical houses, with mirror image floor plans and both with the same “country style” brief from their respective clients.

Tune in to the ‘homeMADE’ grand finale 7.30pm next Tuesday, or visit BigpondTV.com before Telstra and Nine realise the mishap and pull the plug on the leaked episode.

EDIT: Telstra have already pulled the episode.

James Mathison leaves 'Australian Idol', after six years as co-host on the Network Ten series.

The Daily Telegraph is today reporting that James Mathison has left ‘Australian Idol’, after six years as co-host on the Network Ten series.

The 31-year-old hopes to pursue his own music interests as the guitarist for his band, The Punisherz.

“There is a part of me who has a little bit struggled with being ‘that guy from that thing’ and taking a step back totally allows you to do what you want to do without that scrutiny,” he said.

” [Music] is my main interest at the moment.”

“That is why I did the audition all those years ago and when I had a break after Idol last year I just had a real pull towards that initial love of working in music and interviewing bands, doing reviews. I love that stuff,” he said.

“For six years ‘Idol’ has been my life.

“You really don’t have time to do anything else. I might not have been the greatest friend to people because I had no time, so it would be cool to change that.”

One of the first people Mathison told of his departure was Andrew G, who he has worked closely with for over nine years.

“I had to follow my gut and I wanted new challenges,” he says.

The presenter also had to convince Network Ten, that he wasn’t planning to jump ship and sign with a rival network.

“I am not going to be on TV for a while now, not ‘Dancing With The Stars’ or anything like that. I just want to explore other music opportunities while I am here in New York and at home.”

Well, all I can say is, look forward to lots of boring awkward moments from Andrew G on ‘Idol’ this year, when it returns later in 2009.

Tonight the finale of Australian Idol 2008 will conclude and we will have our next winner, for the first time since series 1 there are two males in the final, a final which looks to be a very interesting one.

Wes Carr and Luke Dickens will find that the red carpet has been put away and this year they will have to be content with playing the Opera House forecourt rather than inside. Channel Ten said the changes had been made to provide a better show for the public – with an expected 7000 to watch the live final at the forecourt.

Sydney finalist Carr said the show had already led him in the right direction. And it is a long way from where he was when the 2007 Australian Idol was dominating the screen. ”I was working at the bar at Bronte’s Robin Hood Hotel,” Carr said.

He’ll be singing his own tune at the finale. In a change for the show the formula of one song for both finalists to sing in their own style has been abandoned.

Instead an individual song has been picked for each contestant. For Carr, that is You – a bluesy tune with a pop sensibility. ”I liked it the moment I heard it,” he said.

So tonight you decide who you want to be the next Australian Idol, Wes or Luke…you decide, lets just hope tonight the right decision is made, we all know who is the better out of the two, so lets do the right thing.

For the first time Big Brother and Halloween collide in the UK, but pictures revealed of the new BBUK house reveal little of the terrifying twists the housemates can expect.

The large open plan living area is dominated by the central kitchen, while the bedroom already has that lived in feeling. Should the housemates be expecting company?

More after the break…

And while the garden is on the slightly small side, it does have the essential hot tub, complete with BB eye – plus a mysterious bubble can be seen in one of the pictures released.

Details of the hosuemates, including an “official” press shot complete with the new look BB eye, have also been leaked, with “unapologetic” Marky, “raunchy” Veronica, “South London Geezer” Space and “bitch of the house” Grayson amongst the key characters in the house.

And of course, no pre-series press release is complete without an image of Davina – though this one takes the Halloween horror theme to the extreme, image on top of article

And though Big Brother Australia may be dead and buried for now, the World Firsts live on with this latest series, which not only launches on October 27th with an eviction night, but rather than casting regular bonafide housemates, they’ve only gone and filled the house with actors instead – and every word they speak will be the words of writer and TV critic Charlie Brooker.

Dead Set premieres in the UK on the 27th October and continues throughout the week leading up to Halloween. For more information go to the official site at e4.com/deadset

You can talk about this on the TVAus Forum in the Big Brother UK thread in the reality T.V. section.

2 PAULA’S FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!

Grammy-Nominated songwriter Kara DioGuardi has joined American Idol as a fourth judge. She will sit alongside Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson at the judges’ table and use her background as an award-winning songwriter and producer to praise or critique the wannabe hopefuls throughout the competition. The eighth season of American Idol premieres January 2009 on FOX.

“We are turning the heat up on Idol this year and are thrilled to welcome Kara to the judges’ table,” said creator and executive producer Simon Fuller. “She is a smart, sassy lady, and one of America’s most successful songwriters. We know she will bring a new level of energy and excitement to the show.”

“We had originally intended for American Idol to have four judges,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “We’ve seen from our international series that having a fourth judge creates a dynamic that benefits both the contestants and the viewers.”

Mike Darnell, President, alternative Programming of FOX, added, “For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges’ table. She’s been as an island of consideration and gentle criticism between Randy and Simon, offering her invaluable expertise as a performer and No. 1 artist to the thousands who have competed on American Idol. With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more ‘girl power’ on the show.”

One of the industry’s most sought after songwriters and producers, DioGuardi’s songs have appeared on more than 100 million records. Her songs have been recorded by Grammy award-winning artists including Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Santana and Pink. Scores of major recording artists including Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Pussycat Dolls, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Natasha Bedingfield, Jewel, Ashley Tisdale, Katharine McPhee, Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice, Clay Aiken, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, Jessica Simpson, Kylie Minogue, Enrique Iglesias, Nick Lachey and Marc Anthony have also released DioGuardi’s songs.

Over the last four years, she has been awarded 10 BMI Pop Awards for having written the most performed songs on radio. From her catalog of several hundred songs, over 264 have been released on major labels worldwide; and over 165 have appeared on multi-platinum selling albums. DioGuardi co-owns Arthous Entertainment, where she develops and mentors fellow hit writers, producers and artists.

It is not yet known whether FOX8 will broadcast it again next year, however it was a ratings success on Foxtel drawing in 100,000 viewers near the end of the season.

I will keep you all posted in regards to what is going on in regards to broadcasting rights in 2009.

Lets just hope that TEN don’t get control over it.

Well Australian Idol has now knocked out 2 of the top 12, so we decided it was time for a short run down of the contestants still in with the chance to win some Australian Idol glory.

Wes Carr

Born in South Australia, now living in Bondi, NSW, Wes Carr, 26, is a seasoned musician amongst bars and clubs. Wes can sing, play the piano and the guitar, he is a strong contender to take out Idols 6th season with betting odds currently sitting at $3.

Chrislyn Hamilton

Chrislyn is 17, from Scarborough, Queensland, she is this years Aussie Idol big girl with a big voice. She has a lot of heart and soul. Her confidence is high and she could very well go all the way. Chrislyn is paying $7.

Mark Spano

Mark, 26 from Brighton, Victoria, is this years rock performer. His strong vocal abilities and vocal experience mean he has a real chance for Idol glory this year. Mark is paying $5.

Tom Williams

Adelaide’s only contestant, Tom is a teeny bopper fav, at only 16 he is the youngest male contestant of the bunch. His vocal abilities aren’t the strongest but his good boy looks make up for it. Tom is paying $16.

Thanh Bui

Thanh is 25 from Abbotsford, Victoria, he wears his heart on his sleeve. He tries to sing with a lot of emotion but can often be pigeon holed as a boy band type singer. If Thanh is to make it he needs to continue to put his soul into his performences. Thanh is paying $21.

Teale Jakubenko

Teale is 22, from Yatala, Queensland, he was the publics choice on a very strong night during the semi finals. however his vocal talent isn’t quite as strong as some of the other contestants. Teale is paying $15.

Madam Park

Madam is 23 from Beverly Hills, NSW. She is one of two Australian Idol diva performers. She is certainly an awesome vocalist however does not quite have the confidence yet of a true diva. If she improves her confidence she certainly is a real chance. Madam is paying $6.50.

Roshani Priddis

Roshani 21 from Ashfield, NSW, previously from Sri Lanka she was adopted at 6 weeks old from an Australian family. She is the other Australian Idol diva performer this year, with a fantastic vocal ability and a strong stage presence. Roshani is paying $9.

Luke Dickens

Luke 25, from Young, NSW is a real Aussie bloke. He is a sheep shearer but always had a love of singing and even managed to teach himself the guitar. He was one of the judges picks this year as they thought he had something that the public may warm to. His husky tones could be described to be similar to Jimmy Barnes. Luke is paying $17.

Sophie Patterson

Sophie 23, from London, United Kingdom, originally from Victoria is the last one left from the London auditions held for the first time this year. She loves to sing jazz music with her strong voice however the public hasn’t quite warmed to her yet being in the bottom three on both of the top 12 occasions. Sophie is paying $26.

So that sums up this years contestants. The group this year seems to be quite diverse but the jury is still out on whether Idol will lead them to much success. Having said that, this is their chance to shine.

Going by my previous post you would have noticed that I was happy with Australian Idol so far, the changes they made make the show a bit more interesting and was a step in the right direction. However the producers (mainly Greg Beness) just didn’t cut it this time. Already at the Semi Final stage they have taken a step back and kept going with the same process, this is what annoys me.

As usual they will have 24 contestants, each night 6 sing and 2 get through, then at the end of the week a wild card will take place where the ones who missed out get a second chance and the judges choose 2 more to make the top 12…no, that is not the right way. You would have thought after 5 years they would have realised that this is not the way you do the semi finals. The current format just sends people straight through and who knows, that singer could have just one good performance and be absolutely crap for the rest of the competition.

The better way to do it, and this way will prune out the bad ones is simple, each night have 12 boys and 12 girls sing in a 2 hour show, the night after simply eliminate 2 from the group. Keep doing that until there are 6 boys and 6 girls making the top 12. Yes this could take up to 3 weeks but who cares, it will produce talent and avoid the one hit wonder singers getting through. Now I may be comparing this to American Idol a bit to much, but with what Idol was showing seemed like they were going to do the exact same thing and change it around a little, which was what we were promised, was it not Greg?

More after the break.

Another money making scheme has come once again, now with Big Brother gone, Network Ten have no choice but to bring in the cash once again, this time with Idol. What could they do?

Simple, each Monday night on eliminations, announce the bottom 3 at the beginning of the night; a step in the right direction however it can never be that simple. Those bottom 3 must sing once again and during that hour, the public vote again to save 2 of those 3 from possible elimination. Now this format only allows Eastern states to vote, and before daylight saving kicks in, only NSW and VIC will be able to vote right up to the end, and with a clean slate put on the votes, this format will simply not work, it could work as a once off twist to spice the show up a bit; but every week is just ridiculous and could ruin the show.

Although it is tempting to just stop watching, unfortunately I will be and I am edging to see this new format work and hopefully bombs like Big Brother’s attempt at a new format.

Leave your thoughts on Australian Idol so far.

Australian Idol 2008 has kicked off in style after last nights first audition show. The producers have started off with a new logo and intro which to many fans, shows as a huge change for a tv series, whether that is a good or bad change we are to find that out in the future.

The pros of this series is that the auditions will be over in 1 week, then semi finals in 1 week after that and basically in 2 weeks, we will have the top 12 for Idol. We have also seen that female judge Marcia Hines has produced a bit of a mean side this year not letting anything going astray.

Although there are the wannabe singer-songwriters who will get no where in life even if they do win, there is also some talent elsewhere in the pool. With a $1 million contract with Sony BMG, most likely a very nice car, and a possible #1 debut single and album; this years Idol could turn out to be one of the greatest yet.

Keep up the good work Channel 10.

Both singers are yet to release a solo album.

So how will producers rescue the show? A source has revealed that major international stars will appear on the series as mentors and guests. Stevie Wonder has been lined up as a guest in October but executives are aiming for a female superstar for the final show: Beyonce Knowles has been asked to appear at the Idol finale in Sydney on November 23.

Rumours were also mention regarding the judges of Australian Idol, Mark, Marcia, Dicko and Kyle; With Mark now out of the picture Fremantle Media wanted all judges to be axed from the show and replaced with a fresh new team. However Channel 10 did not want to do that and went against their decision and stated that if 2008 does not succeed a huge revamp will take place with all judges being replaced and Andrew G leaving the show. Andrew G is rumored not be taking part in this series however no sources have provided this as of yet.

So what do you think? Australian Idol, is it too little too late? Will it go the way of Big Brother? Leave your comments and give us your views on the future of the show.

Australian Idol begins 7:30pm Sunday, August 24, 2 hours before the Olympic Closing Ceremony. Perhaps a ratings grabber stunt for TEN, who are no doubt hoping that the viewers will tune in to Idol while waiting for the Closing Ceremony to begin.

Check out the current promo after the break, which features some of the top 100.
