So here we are just a few months later and Vincent’s debut album “My Dream – Mio Visionario” has hit the scene after a whirlwind tour to Italy and back.

Now I’m no expert when it comes to vocal music, but I can appreciate a great singer like the next guy. What can I say? This kid has talent.

Kicking off the album is Vincent’s rendition of the infamous “Nessun Dorma”, as song which has become synonymous with the greatest tenor of all time. While bringing his own fresh element to this classic, Vincent’s rendition also pays homage to the incomparable Luciano Pavarotti.

One of the standout tracks for me is a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s similarly infamous “Hallelujah”, which was made famous by John Cale as featured in the 2001 animated film ‘Shrek’ and by Jeff Buckley as used in ‘The OC’. Vincent puts his own spin on the popular song, with his trademark mix of English and Italian lyrics. It’s both satisfying for fans of the previously mentioned covers and distinctive enough to warrant a second listen.

A favourite of vocal music fans is Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli’s “The Prayer”, which Vincent does admirably in a rather Josh Groban-esque way.

Another stand out is a cover of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “No Matter What”, in which Vincent teams up with fellow ‘Got Talent’ finalist Jal Joshua. It’s a fun, distinctive track, which would otherwise be overshadowed by the other power ballads on the album.

The last track on the album is the Australian national anthem “Advance Australia Fair”, which I often criticise for being dull and nowhere near as patriotic as the US anthem. But the orchestral arrangement on Vincent’s version is just bold enough to make even me feel a twinge of patriotism, which is saying something.

At only 15 years of age, Mark Vincent is sure to have bright future ahead of him and it shall be interesting to watch him grow and mature as a performer.

Little Britain premieres on Channel Nine

Little Britain, the hilarious comedy sketch show that is a mad, bad and quirky look at the people and places of Britain, premieres on Channel Nine, Tuesday, July 7 at 10.30pm.

Little Britain, written and performed by Matt Lucas and David Walliams, is a small and surreal parallel universe peopled by gloriously over-the-top eccentrics, lunatics and social misfits who live in towns with strange names like Flange and Scoffage.

Featuring an array of characters, including Vicky Pollard, the incoherent trailer-trash teenager. Marjorie Dawes, the tubby, tyrannical leader of her Fat Fighters class. Emily Howard, the world’s least convincing transvestite. Daffyd Thomas, who insists he is the only homosexual in his village. Gary, the teenager with an unhealthy attraction to his best friend’s granny. Kenny Craig, a creepy stage hypnotist who uses his powers to get women to go on dates with him. And Des Kaye, former children’s TV star (catchphrase “wicky woo”) now working at DIY Universe.

Then there’s Prime Minister Michael (Anthony Stewart Head, Buffy), a man loved by his country and jealously adored by his camp assistant, Sebastian Dame Sally, and Andy, a miserable git in a wheelchair who is looked after by Lou – who has no idea Andy can actually walk.

Filmed on location and in front of a studio audience, Little Britain travels throughout the Scottish Highlands, Wales, the tranquil English countryside and the less tranquil council estates of Britain’s inner cities while narrator Tom Baker (Doctor Who, Nicholas and Alexandra) adds insightful and eloquent comments to each episode.

Little Britain premieres on Channel Nine, Tuesday, July 7 at 10.30pm.

Neil Patrick Harris, currently know for his role as Barney Stinson on ‘How I Met Your Mother’, looks to be the front runner to host the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

While no deal has been closed yet, sources say the actor is currently in the middle of cutting a deal with CBS and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Harris recently received rave reviews as host of this year’s Tony Awards, which were held on June 7th on CBS. So it’s no wonder the network approached the comedy actor to front this year’s night of nights for TV.

Emmycast executive producer, Don Mischer, is under immense pressure from the network and Academy, after last year’s Awards were widely panned for the decision to use five reality TV show personalities as co-hosts.

The new, fun, entertaining way to lose weight…Coming Soon to Channel Nine

Twelve finalists, nearly 1361 kilos, one goal – to go from an eating machine to a dancing machine – in Channel Nine’s outrageous new dance/weight loss competition series Dance Your Ass Off, direct from the US.

Bringing dance and diet together, Dance Your Ass Off features talented, full-figured contestants who have to lose to win, in this fun, energetic new series that will premiere in the coming weeks on Channel Nine.

Each contestant is paired with a professional dance partner who will train him or her for weekly stage performances – ranging from Hip Hop, to Ballroom and even Pole Dancing! Then they shake and rattle their rolls in front of a live studio audience and a panel of expert judges. The judges score the routines, and then the contestants weigh in to reveal their weekly weight loss. The dance score and the weight loss are combined for an overall score, which determines who is sent home each week.

Producer Sally Ann Salsano, who has weight issues herself, hopes the 12-week program would show viewers that losing weight does not have to be torture.

“They are having the time of their life and they are shedding weight,” she said. Dance Your Ass Off is hosted by actress Marissa Winokur, who won a Tony award as Tracy Turnblad in the musical Hairspray on Broadway.

“We are delighted to bring Australian viewers this fun new series for the whole family to enjoy,” said Nine’s Head of Acquisitions, Les Sampson.

The 21-year old singer/actor will play Olivia Burke, a movie star who enrolls at NYU in search of a traditional college experience.

Duff’s character is set to play roommate to Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), who like the rest of the cast are beginning their first year of college.

‘Gossip Girl’ producers apparently jumped at the chance to sign Duff, after NBC passed on her comedy pilot ‘Barely Legal’.

Duff will make her ‘Gossip Girl’ debut in the upcoming season’s fourth episode, scheduled to air October 5th on The CW.

Eliminated contestants Poh, Justine and Tom returned in a surprise twist on 'MasterChef'.

In a surprise twist on ‘MasterChef’ tonight, three eliminated contestants returned to the competition as potential contenders for the title of Australia’s first ‘MasterChef’.

Justine, Poh and Tom all returned to face off against remaining contestants Julie, Sam, Chris and Andre in a daunting challenge to feed over 200 sailors on the HMAS Kanimbla.

Each contestant was asked to choose one dish to serve, with the goal of receiving the highest number of votes. The clear favorite was Justine’s lamb shanks, which received the highest number of points.

The two dishes which received the lowest number of points were Tom’s chicken curry and Sam’s seafood pasta. Both will face off tomorow night  in a pressure test, with the loser sent packing.

Things have certainly heated up on this year’s break out show, and with Justine and Poh back in the running, it’s going to be an interesting race to the finale.

Tune in to ‘MasterChef’ 7.00pm tomorrow night for the grueling taste test challenge between Tom and Sam.

Australia's favourite family are back.

Last night, Australia’s favourite family returned to our screens after a mere three-month hiatus; but clearly that was three months too many.

The season premiere of ‘Packed to the Rafters’ pulled in a massive 1.5 million viewers even without the entire state of Victoria watching, which instead screened the EJ Whitten AFL match.

Should we also attribute a little of that result to last nights record $90 million Lotto draw? Probably…but honestly, who can deny that the Rafter family have some serious pull on the ratings, despite the Lotto and the AFL.

The premiere could have easily pulled over 2 million viewers had the audience also included Melbourne. Sydney alone pulled in over 650,000 viewers.

Next week will be the real test, when ‘Rafters’ returns in all states. Victoria will screen the first two episodes back-to-back from 7.30pm. Watch out ‘homeMADE’ grand finale, you’ll be lucky if anyone watches…who am I kidding, the finale was already spoiled.

Jason Sullivan has been revealed as the winner of Nine’s renovation show ‘homeMADE’.

Going by Nine’s recent scheduling pattern, the final two episodes should have aired back-to-back last night. But due to the AFL airing in some states, the second episode was pushed back a week.

The scheduling change obviously didn’t reach major advertising partner Telstra, who posted the final episode of ‘homeMADE’ on Bigpond TV a week early; revealing Sullivan to be the winner.

The 37-year old model turned designer, was the only contestant on the show to have no formal design experience. His only exposure to design was through his time in Paris, London, Milan, New York, Rome and Los Angeles where lived as a model.

Sullivan takes home $100,000 prize money in the grand finale, in which he’s pitted against 31-year old Queensland designer Darren Palmer.

In last night’s penultimate episode, the two were tasked to renovate an entire house each. Both contestants were presented with identical houses, with mirror image floor plans and both with the same “country style” brief from their respective clients.

‘Everwood’ The Complete Second Season

‘Everwood’ is one of my favourite shows ever. Like many others, I fell in love the small town of Everwood, Colorado back when it aired on The WB and subsequently on the Nine Network in Australia.

The Complete First Season was released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment back in September 2004. It was a number of new teen dramas headed to DVD, including Josh Schwartz’s ‘The OC’.

A few years went by and there had been no word on the second season of ‘Everwood’. Despite ‘The OC’ seeing several later season hit shevles.

The initial response from Warner Bros. was that they had no plans to release future seasons of ‘Everwood’ because of poor sales on the first season.

So naturally, when it became apparent that the second season would never come out on DVD, I was absolutely devastated.

Then in July last year, there were a couple rumblings of a release, with music artist Will Derryberry stating on his blog that some of his songs would be featured in episodes of ‘Everwood’ headed for TheWB.com video portal and on DVD.

At this point it became apparent that Warner Bros. were working on acquiring licences for the music featured in the series, plus a number of additional music replacements.

Finally in September last year, the news was confirmed by Warner Bros. Vice President of TV marketing during the online Home Theatre Forum chat. Finally!

So here we are, five years later and ‘Everwood’ The Complete Second Season is finally out on DVD and boy was is worth the wait.

The second season picks up exactly where the first season left off, where we were let wondering many questions, including: Did Colin survive the surgery? Will Amy and Ephram finally get together?

The answer to one of these questions becomes apparent within the first five minutes, but not before a convincing daydream sequence, which leads us to believe otherwise.

We see how these characters, which we’ve grown to love, deal with the loss of such a pivotal character during the show’s first season. We see them through their ups and downs and ultimately how their small town universe is suddenly altered.

Existing relationships are tested with the reversal two key relationships. We also see new relationships develop out of all the chaos of last season.

Season two also introduces a number of new characters, including Dr. Linda Abbott, a new love interest for Dr. Andy Brown (Treat Williams), played by the incomparable Marcia Cross (’Desperate Housewives’).

Deliah’s new baby-sitter Madison (Sarah Lancaster, ‘Chuck’), who becomes an interesting influence on the adolescent Ephram (Gregory Smith).

Finally, bad boy Tommy (Paul Wesley, ‘The Vampire Diaries’), who leads Amy (Emily Vancamp) down a dark path as she struggles to deal with her loss.

Here we have 22 brilliantly crafted episodes, dealing with such topical social issues including adolescent sex, depression and AIDS;  all though the microcosm of a small mountain town.

‘Everwood’ is poetic, eye opening and makes for an unbeatable television experience.

The images are sharp and presented in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, preserving the original broadcast presentation. Some music has been replaced for this home entertainment version, but nothing too detrimental to the overall experience. Fortunately the series features a lot of original music composed by Blake Neely, including the series theme song, all of which is still intact.

Bonus features are pretty sparse. There’s just a batch of deleted scenes, some of which are great additions, others not so much.

I guess that’s what happens when you wait five years to release a series on DVD. Hopefully for future releases, Warner Bros. will make more effort in producing cast and crew interviews, commentaries and behind the scenes featurettes.

It’d be of particular interest to hear from series creator Greg Berlanti, whose since gone off to produce ‘Brothers and Sisters’, ‘Dirty Sexy Money’, ‘Eli Stone’ and co-write the upcoming blockbuster ‘The Green Lantern’.

“Everwood’ The Complete Second Season is a rare example of a family drama which is smart and topical, all the while being cool and entertaining.

Let’s hope Warner Bros. fast track the release of the final two seasons of this outstanding series.

Lindsey Shaw, Ethan Peck and Meaghan Jette Martin star in ABC Family's new series ‘10 Things I Hate About You’.

Based on the hit movie ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ comes the new ABC Family series by the same name.

The series is based around sisters Kat and Bianca Stratford. While trying to adjust to their newfound social lives at Padua High, they must also learn to deal with their over protective father, especially when it comes to boys.

Like in the movie, Kat is strong-willed and all about feminist power, while Bianca is more concerned with her appearance and popularity.

The series is set to premiere on July 7th, 2009 on ABC Family.

Gil Junger, who directed the film, also directed the pilot; which was written and produced by Carter Covington.

The series stars Lindsey Shaw (’Aliens in America’) as Kat Stratford, Meaghan Jette Martin (’Camp Rock’) as Bianca Stratford and Larry Miller as Dr. Walter Stratford, a role which reprises from the original film.

The cast also includes Ethan Peck, Nicholas Braun, Kyle Kaplan, Dana Davis and Chris Zylka.

His brother Jermaine Jackson confirmed the news to press outside the UCLA Medical Centre, where Jackson was taken by paramedics after his collapse.

“My brother, the legendary King of Pop, passed away on Thursday June 25 at 2.26pm. We believe he suffered a cardiac arrest at his home, however the cause of his death is unknown until the results of the autopsy are known. The personal physician who was with him at the time attempted to resuscitated him.”

Jackson got his start in the music industry alongside his brothers in the Jackson 5. Their success lead to numerous appearances on a number of television shows including ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’, ‘Top of the Pops’ and ‘American Bandstand’.

Prior to his death, Jackson had been scheduled to perform 50 sold-out concerts to over one million people in London. It was suggested that these concerts would mark Jackson’s retirement.

Seven is launching a local version of the international smash hit reality series BEAUTY AND THE GEEK – and the casting call is on for a group of academically-smart men who may be socially challenged and a group of good-looking women who desperately need to brush up on their general knowledge.

The ‘beauties’ and the ‘geeks’ will be paired up as couples for a share in a major prize package. For the ultimate social experiment, they will live together during the course of the competition, facing challenges that test the beauties on academic subjects and the geeks on social skills.

The project is set shortly after aliens have wiped out most of the human race. Wyle will play the leader of group of soldiers and civilians who struggle against the alien force.

The pilot was written by Robert Rodat (”Saving Private Ryan”) from an idea he conceived with Spielberg.

Spielberg, whose company was behind ‘ER’ said,”It is a privilege to be starting a second series with Noah — the first didn’t do too badly.”

DreamWorks Television will produce the pilot under executive producers Spielberg, Rodat, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank.

Ryan will play the role of Tara, a smart-ass, streetwise con artist who gets sucked in the Leverage clan when Sophie (Gina Bellman) calls on her for help.

Ryan is best know for her roles in ‘Star Trek: Voyager’,'Boston Legal’, ‘The O.C.’ and ‘Shark’.

‘Leverage’ returns for its second season on July 15th on TNT.

It looks like Joanna Garcia will be back in blonde locks this September when she guest stars on The CW's 'Gossip Girl'.

Joanna Garcia, best know for her roles on ‘Reba’ and ‘Privileged’, is returning to The CW next season with a recurring role on the hit teen drama ‘Gossip Girl’.

Garcia will play the evil Miss America-type blonde Bree Buckley, who comes from a conservative Southern family but is politically progressive.

While her story line is being kept under wraps, sources say she is expected to have a fling with a regular on the show. Michael Ausiello of Entertainment Weekly suggests her character may get intimate with the series player Nate, played by Chase Crawford.

‘Gossip Girl’ returns for its third season on September 14th on The CW.

Farrah Fawcett has died aged 62, following a long battle with cancer.

Fawcett, who was best know for her role in the 70’s series ‘Charlies Angels’, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2006.

Just months after being declared cancer-free, it was reported that her cancer had returned, and had spread to her liver.

She was treated in Germany several times with experimental procedures.

Fawcett died at 9:28 am PST on June 25, 2009, in the intensive care unit of Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California.

Her long time partner Ryan O’Neal and friend Alana Stewart were by her side.

Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf star in "Revenge of the Fallen", the follow up to 2007's smash hit "Transformers".

Following on from the hugely successful 2007 smash hit “Transformers”, comes “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”, the second film based on the Hasbro toyline by the same name.

Director Michael Bay (’Armageddon’, ‘Peal Harbour’) returns to helm the multi-million dollar blockbuster with stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro.

So where do we begin with “Revenge of the Fallen”?  Well, let’s start with the action.

Let’s just say there’s plenty of it. Loud, messy, chaotic action. The film jumps from city to city destroying everything in its path. Not unlike is prequel.

You can’t go past Michael Bay when it comes to action blockbusters. He’s the king, right?

Well, unfortunately for “Revenge of the Fallen”, as great as the action is, its almost like one giant ego-stroking rehash of every other Michael Bay film. Whether this was intentional, or perhaps I’m just too familiar with Bay’s previous work, there really wasn’t anything in there that hasn’t been seen before. Asteroids, sinking warships, you name it. It’s all in there.

Half an hour into the film and you’ve pretty much filled your action quota. There’s just too much of the same action and nothing really stands out.

That being said, the visual effects are truly unbelievable. Industrial Light and Magic have absolutely nailed a visual style for the Autobots and Decepticons which is both realistic and other worldly.

The Witwicky clan are back to fill your ears with plenty of mindless banter. Shia LeBeouf (Sam Witwicky), Kevin Dunn (Ron Witwicky) and Julie White (Judy Witwicky) provide reasonably strong comedic performances, which help break up the excessive action scenes.

John Turturro (former Sector 7 agent Seymour Simmons) and Ramón Rodríguez  (Sam’s college roommate, Leo Spitz) also provide some comic relief.

What made the first film so great, was its ability to not take itself to seriously, thanks to its strong comedic cast. However in “Revenge of the Fallen” you start to feel as though the film is almost trying too hard to be funny and sometimes actually verges on annoying.

Megan Fox (Mikaela Banes) resumes her role as the resident hottie, a role which everyone knows she does all too well. Michael Bay clearly intended to up the ante, by strategically dressing her in even more scant clothing.

Australia’s Isabel Lucas (Alice) adds a second layer of sex appeal, just in case Megan Fox straddling a motorcycle wasn’t enough for you. Lucas has never been the strongest actor in our books and “Revenge of the Fallen” is no different. If it weren’t for her looks, would she have been cast? Doubtful…

What lets “Revenge of the Fallen” down so much is its rather poor storyline. Everything is made out to be so eventful, that by the end, nothing stands out.

Hollywood writing duo Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who’ve brought us a number of Hollywood blockbusters over the last few years including “The Ledged of Zorro”, “The Island” and “Mission Impossible III”, resume their writing positions on “Transformers”.

While “Revenge of the Fallen” was in development, Kurtzman and Orci were also hard at work writing “Star Trek” and co-creating television series ‘Fringe’ with J.J. Abrams. They were also making final (but uncredited) script revisions to Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen”, serving as producers on “Eagle Eye” and executive producers on romantic-comedy “The Proposal”.

Perhaps the fact that they’ve been just so busy with so many projects is why “Revenge of the Fallen” fails to hit the mark. The storyline feels so thinly stretched between all the rampant collateral damage, if someone asked me what the film is about, I’d really have to think hard to try and remember.

So, what’s the bottom line?

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” is a great action blockbuster for those who love fun popcorn flicks. Its even a little easier to sit through from just a motion sickness inducing persecutive, thanks to less chaotic camera work. But for anyone who was expecting something different to the first or a little more in terms story, then perhaps you might leave a little disappointed.

The miniseries tracks the intertwined odysseys of three U.S. Marines – Robert Leckie (played by James Badge Dale), Eugene Sledge (Joe Mazzello) and John Basilone (Jon Seda) – across the vast canvas of the Pacific. The extraordinary experiences of these men and their fellow Marines take them from the first clash with the Japanese in the haunted jungles of Guadalcanal, through the impenetrable rain forests of Cape Gloucester, across the blasted coral strongholds of Peleliu, up the black sand terraces of Iwo Jima, through the killing fields of Okinawa, to the triumphant, yet uneasy, return home after V-J Day.

Some of the Australian cast members include Isabel Lucas, Gary Sweet, Leon Ford, Penny McNamee and Anna Torv.

‘The Pacific’ is set to premiere in 2010 on HBO and the Seven Network.

The Nine Network and Warner Bros. have inked the largest television deal in Australian history.

Despite earlier reports that the Seven Network were hoping the nab the Nine Network’s output deal with Warner Bros. for an estimated $52 million a year, Nine have come through with a offer the U.S.-based studio just couldn’t refuse.

The offer in question comes to a grand total of $500 million (or $100 million per year), almost double the offer from Seven.

Under the new pact, Warner Bros. will continue supplying content to Nine through 2015 from major producers such as Jerry Bruckheimer, John Wells, J.J. Abrams, Josh Schwartz, Kevin Williamson and Chuck Lorre, plus the studio’s entire feature slate, including the remainder of the “Harry Potter” series, the sequel to the Aussie animated comedy “Happy Feet” and upcoming blockbusters “Green Lantern” and “Where the Wild Things Are”, just to name a few.

Warner Bros. International TV president Jeffrey Schlesinger, who flew to Sydney last week to finalise the deal, said ”It was a very competitive situation in what is a very series-driven market”.

Nine’s CEO David Gyngell expressed relief over having closed the deal.

“We’ll have new digital channels in the coming years, and we need the best product available to attract viewers. The new deal grants us exclusivities and revenue-sharing in new-media windows. Plus, as was clear at the LA Screenings last month, Warners has the best slate.”

Nine plan to launch their third digital channel soon, and it’s believed that Warner Bros. strong youth oriented programmes are expected to form the backbone of the new channel.

New shows, like ‘The Vampire Diaries’ from ‘Dawson’s Creek’ creator Kevin Williams, and current popular series including ‘Entourage’, ‘Sex and the City’ and ‘Gossip Girl’ all received the nod from the network.

The younger target demographic for the new channel has also allowed Nine to secure big advertisers including Pizza Hit and Coca Cola, who previously reserved airtime for other younger skewed channels.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Seven Network, who’ve yet to announce details for their third digital channel, said yesterday, “We’ve determined our approach. Next decision will be timing on launch.”

Amidst the buzz from the media, the $500 million price tag for the Warner Bros. deal is raising a few eyebrows amongst the industry an shareholders alike, with Nine and parent company CVC Asia Pacific already under heavy financial turmoil. Sources believe questions will be raised as to the affordability of the deal.

Network Ten’s action drama ‘Rush’ is returning to our screens for it’s second season.

The high octane police drama will premiere in a new time slot at 8.30pm Thursdays, beginning July 16th on Network Ten.

The move will shift the series out last season’s ‘Packed to the Rafters’/'All Saints’ Tuesday night warpath.

The new season will unfold over of 22 episodes, up from the 13 episodes which aired last year.

‘Rush’ stars Rodger Corser, Callan Mulvey, Samuel Johnson and Catherine McClements. Joining the cast this season is Jolene Anderson (’All Saints’), who plays specialist negotiator Senior Constable Shannon Henry.

‘Rush’ is produced by Souther Star Entertainment under John Edwards, Mimi Butler and executive producers Rick Maier and Hugh Marks.

As we previously reported, ‘Packed to the Rafters’ will be returning 8.30pm Tuesday, June 30th on Seven.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor’s wish to be released from his contract with the show has been granted. The news comes as other cast members on the hit ABC series received formal pick up letters from the network.

Last month, Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly that Knight’s character, George, was intentionally written lighter during the last half of the season so that viewers wouldn’t think it odd that he was absent from the season finale — something that was necessary to preserve the episode’s biggest twist: that George was actually a disfigured John Doe who had been hit by a bus.

“I really wanted you to not notice that he wasn’t there for most of this episode,” she said. “I don’t think anybody noticed because of the way we laid it out this season.”

Knight’s departure from the series now seems to confirm that George won’t survive.
